Going Mach will be an interesting dilema for the Air Force. Very few MOA's allow it and no doubt they will have to expand their airspace. As far a block 30's and 40's go........how would you like the be in the New Mexico Air Guards shoes when they hear that the Block 30 may be retired in six years after having just giving up the block 40's to Cannon and then possibly getting them back in six years after they've been used and abused. Makes me wonder where the rest of the block 40's are going to go?

| As far as Cannon closing they been saying that for the last 30+ years....I'll believe it when I see it. It would be interesting to see where the Block 40 ends up. When I was there I was assigned to the 524th FS, which at the time was the largest Block 40 squadron in the Air Force. By the way most of the Block 40s assigned to the 524 came from Pope AFB and were originally "Flying TIgers". When we got'em they still had the shark mouth painted on them. But they made us paint over them cause apparently the Shark mouth was a trademark of the Flying TIgers and so we werent allowed to keep the "mouths" on them. |

I am in the NMANG and I think I can say that we would rather have our Block 40's back (used and abused) then continue with these piles from Cannon. |

| I hope Cannon closes before I have to be stationed there. I have heard nothing but bad things about that base. |

| I think that the only tail you will see with the shark mouth and tailflash "CC" was 88-0429. I think that was taken en route from Pope to Cannon. They were removed once on station at Cannon. I can look for more when they belonged to Pope. |
