Just want to get peoples input on the fighter squadrons at Hill- I'll be PCS'ing there in August to the 388th AMXS, and have heard, um, less than pleasant things about the 34th, but good things about the 421'st and 4th. Anyone who is there, or there recently (last 1-2 years), have any advice?

I haven't been a Ram since Jan '99 but I'm sure it hasn't changed much. My old Intel Lt is now a Capt flying with the Rams. I was fortunate enough to get the chance to fly in -184 and -393 7 times (threw up 3 times, thanks to the maintainers who cleaned up after me.) All the squadrons are pretty good although the 4th (Fuujins) always was a little cocky and the "wing favorites." Enjoy your time there, it's an awesome assignment in a great location. Vipers Rule!

I'm in the 4th currently, things have been getting a lot better. Exercises are different everytime, and you're heading into an ORI in november so be prepared for a lot of crap.

Do you know which squad you're going to? also what base are you from and what SC?

Yeah exercises should be no big deal. I'm at Osan now, and we've been doing them monthly since august-ish to prep for the ORI we had a couple weeks ago. Great fun. Haven't found out what squadron I'm going to yet, but I'm petitioning for the 421 or 4th. I am a 16 crew chief, although I haven't been doing maintenance for a few months thanks to a different job here cough T/A cough

They did theirs same time we did ours, so you're in the clear there. Don't have any idea how they did overall, but their TA was calling up here pretty regular for assistance.

Yup. They've got a long one (9-ish days) with a NEO thrown in for good measure here in a couple months- just 1 1/2 weeks after I leave. I'm terribly dissapointed to be missing it, middle of summer and all. As I said, I don't know for sure how Kun did, since I'm up at Osan. I hope they did good. If not, they're hating life for the next few months, and you'll walk right into the middle of it. For your sake I hope they did great.

Yeah I've heard that, as far as I know all the stateside bases TA shop is civilian now (it was Dyncrap at Eglin). Its been a great experiance (getting all the crash recovery training is great) and it has been good fun playing with so many different airframes, but I am ready to get back to the flightline. There are only so many UH-60, F/A-18's and B-747's you can handle before the novelty begins to wear off. The mosquitos never really bothered me too much here, to my suprize. Unless they're alot worse in the spring than the rest of the year- then life will really suck over the next two months.

TA at Hill (Ogden ALC) is run by a contractor.
