| Gday Lisafer. This is like a year late, but [Link pending approval] For you wanting to be a fighter pilot you should definatly join the rnzaf. I start my initial training next month and have been talking to heaps of the instructors and operational pilots. Well The jist is, it is very common place for the kiwis to get transfered to the raaf and raf and fly fighter jets. They love training nzers because of the exreamely high quality skills and basically only the best make it through airforce training. So it is a bloody good idea to get your foot in the door of the rnzaf. And also, other countries dont take nz recruits. Or anyone without a bloody amazing degree behind them. (i tryed for the raf last year.).... So go for it!! |

Thanks lol time doesn't matter I guess, nothing wrong with advice like that. Have had a lot of circumstance changes since I posted that initially. Still want to be a fighter pilot but it seems more like a childish dream right now, what with working 7 days a week in two very different jobs. Maybe it's just me not wanting to succeed in something I really want to do but I guess that's just how life goes. But thank you, I'll think on it |

| Haha i see. sounds like me a year ago, i failed the initial test in seventh form then gave up for like a year and a half. Just buggered round really. Then decided to just go for it, so i applied in january and now start next month! But yea everyone gave me shite for it. Saying i was dreaming and stuff. I know the Iroquios isn't quite a state of the art fighter jet, but its a start eh! |

I don't know about the differences from the USAF through the NZAF, but here is what I can say:
Flying, as in fighter pilot, I don't have any idea. There are other avenues, such as transport pilot, as you mentioned, but don't sell yourself short on those! I agree flying a C-5 or KC-135 (or the NZ equivilants, so to speak) would be boring as hell. But, if you could get on C-130's, especially in any kind of special ops, you'll be doing alot of high speed low level tactical stuff. Ditto for any of the smaller helicopters (HH-60's or whatever you guys have that is equivilant)- search and rescue, tactical stuff like that. |
