Ok, It was previously mentioned in the post about the canopy. What I am looking for is people who have actually done ICT's during actuall combat operations, not a training exercise. I would love to know if it was done the same as when you trained, to include the amount of personnel used. Was it a PITA like training was? Looking for insight and perspective more than technical correct quotation.

Never did a "no kidding" ICT during Desert Storm, OSW, or OPERATION Desert Fox....

Not sure anyone ever has, I think that is why the ICTs are a thing of the past.

A lot of unrecorded records were set in the next few minutes as the aircraft were combat turned (simultanious rearm and refuel) just in case our guys could get back up there to help in the search

This was the only instance I had ever heard of. I was looking for others to enlighten me.

Interesting...guess someone did them. We did some concurrent ops, but never an ICT by definition.

Well kinda. We just started working as soon as the jet pulled in. Half the time the first bomb was locked in before the jet ever shut down. We had different crews doing different task, it was easier. One crew carted while another couple loaded then a couple of the Load CCs post loaded. We also kept a crew back to do stuff like load guns etc. This was pretty much the mix for 6 jets. Real ICT yeah right just a pain in the butt and not the most efficient use of man power.

Thanks for the imput fellas! Your responses have really just confirmed my thoughts. I had similar experiences when I deployed to the AOR as well. I just wanted to see if it was SOP, if it was written down, or if it was done just cause thats what made sense.

It was not as written. But is was condoned by the leadership. The AF could use the system I wrote of but standardizing it throughout would be tough and ensuring it was safe in every location even tougher. That is one of the reasons the AF pretty much did away with the ICT program, it does not work in the real world.

I believe that one reason ICT's were trained upon was to provide a general environment that could be applied in a war time environment. Maybe not performing the process step by step but by making all individuals involved familiar with aircraft turnaround procedures. We've never performed ICT's either (by the book) but have used bits and pieces during contingency operations thus making all players comfortable working around each other.

Thats the trouble with regulations and operation instrutions. There are sometimes conflicting imput conditions. For example, while fueling the jet no one else is allowed to be within 25 feet of the fuel vent. When loading, the weapons pukes tell me that they don't like anyone doing more than an inspection on the jet. So when ICT's are applied and all the conditons are met you end up using about twice the manpower as you would in a normal turn. Granted you theoreticly turn the jet in less time, but you also don't have the people on the other needed tasks of other Jets during the ICT. So when blending operations do you let the gray areas of OI's blend? Some would say yes, as long as you apply ORM to it and are willing to take the heat of the call in the event that something bad happened. I applaud those of you who have been in the box during the fight. I wish I could have had that chance.
