We all saw the Cope India, the IAF really showed their might but I believe that was because they were up against the F15's. Another exercise wid the F-16's would really show what the IAF has. I need honest opinions on the IAF.

| The F-15's had soooo maaaany restriction ( let them win and let them get some confidence) that made the india af look better but in reality the F-15 would have and have kicked there a$$. |

Yeah, let's have another exercise, but this time keep the Eagles in it. This time, let the Eagles use their full capabilities, and we'll see who wins.
The moral of this story? Don't brag unless you really know you can win FOR REAL!
Sure, I can beat Shaq in a one-on-one basketball game, if he has a hand tied behind his back, and both legs shackled together.
BTW, if we used either the F-15, or 16 to their full ability against the Indian AF, either way it would be no contest!

guys, I was under the impression, all joint-exercises profiles were decided and agreed upon by mission commanders, planners and operators from all involved parties. I believe constraints were injected either to explore one's weaknesses or to fulfil any individual's agenda (if there was any).
TC, I'm sure Shaq's hands were not tied behind his back, and both legs not shackled together. Perhaps he was only told, he could not slam dunk and can only attempt free throw shot? For, his manager would like to see how Shaq performs under extreme conditions and perhaps to justify the drafting of a 3-point shooter or a very expensive all-round player? |

guys,
don't forget that during those exercises the IAF fielded Su-30Ks. now, the Su-30MKIs are far more superior, almost in a different class when compared to the normal Su-30. don't forget it was the Bison that shocked the F-15s the most.It is regarded as one of te hbest multi-role fighters in the world today.
what sort of restrictions did the American F-15s have?
besides ,if the IAF wasn't good enough, would the USAF, French Air Force and the RSAF would have held exercises with the IAF?
the proposed exercises are to take place in eastern part of India at Kalaikunda AFS, home IAF 's MiG-27 squadrons... |

I like your logic on that one Pumpkin. I can see where that way of thinking could have been used in that exercise.
In the exercise, the Americans were not allowed to use AMRAAMs. Some details are classified, for obvious reasons, but from what I understand, our guys were also limited in some of the tactics we could use. Therefore, we were not using the F-15 to its fullest capabilities.
Many like to make it seem as if the F-15 is a useless relic. That could not be farther from the truth. In the hands of a capable American or Israeli pilot, the jet has virtually no equal. What I would like to see is an international DACT exercise, where we could cut the F-15 loose on the competition with no restrictions.
Many who thought that the Eagle's days were numbered would be sadly mistaken.

Indian Air Forces frontline Su-30, Mirage 2000 and upgraded MiG-21 Bisons would cross swords with the United States Air Force F-16 fighting falcons in the second series of joint fighter exercises in November this year.
The pilots of the two air forces would match their skills in close range as well as beyond visual range combats over Kalaikunda airbase in West Bengal. In their first test of wits, the Indian pilots had got the better of their American counterparts in Gwalior last year.
But the contest that time had been between the US F-15's and the Indian SU-30's and Bisons. And the US air force this time are bringing in their Fighting Falcons that too of Block 50-52's, the latest upgrades series.
According to top IAF officials, 8 to 12 American F-16's would be taking part in the exercise 'Cope Thunder Three' and India, besides the Su-30MKI and SU-30K, would field the Mig-27s, Mirage 2000 and MiG-21 Bisons.
The US officials have been very keen to have a closer look at India's just acquired SU-30MKI. In the past, New Delhi has spurned invitations for the frontline fighters to visit America for taking part in multi-nation air exercises. |
