Hey there guys! It seems like we have a few guys here who might have visited a bar or two in their time and the thought occured to me that we might be able to benefit from each other's experiences !
So what are everyone's favorite drinks? Please include the recipe if you know it so that we might be able to benefit !
I'd have to say that my favorite drink has to be a good margarita (in case you hadn't figured it out by now from my screen name). Tequila, cointreau, lime, and salt around the rim are all I ask for .
Now, there are a couple of drinks I haven't had the chance to try yet, but I'm going to have to order one of them the next time I go to Margaritaville down at the Flamingo on the strip.
The first recipe was created and given to me by a fellow Parrot Head while I was still working in the nautical (and Buffett) gift shop in San Diego. It's called a "Nutty Hawaiian" and it goes something like this:
Ingredients:- Southern Comfort
- Amaretto
- Coconut Rum
- Pineapple Juice
Directions:
"Fill glass (how big is up to you ) with equal parts of Southern Comfort, Amaretto, and Coconut Rum until 2/3 full. Add pineapple juice until full. Pour into a shaker and shake well. Pour back into the glass, or over ice if you wish." Sounds tasty
The other recipe came from the internet. It's inspired by a drink mentioned in a book called The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy called a "Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster." It's said to be the best drink in the galaxy and is supposed to leave the impression that your head has just been slammed between a couple of gold bricks . Here's the Earth version:- 1 oz. EverClear
- 4 oz. Bombay Sapphire or Jeremiah Weed
- 4 oz. Cold Wild Turkey
- 2 oz. Herredura Tequila
- 5 oz. Rum
- 1 worm from bottle of Mezcla
- 2 oz. Gatorade
Before drinking, eat one olive to create a sweetness in it which is not there
I don't know just how this one will taste, but after looking at the ingredients, I'm sure its effect on the consumer's central nervous system will quickly become evident to the casual observer !
Come on and share your knowledge guys ! |

Ok, I'm quite the kamikaze when behind the bar. I find stuff that looks like it would taste good together, and I say WTF and go for it... Hmm... kind of like a few females I've hooked up with from time to time.
But as for a few of my favs...
Margarita (my version differs slightly from Parrothead's)- Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila
- Triplesec
- Lime
--Mix in Blender with Ice
--Rim glass with Salt
Bloody Mary- V-8
- Vodka (my trick is to use something cheaper for your Bloody Marys, like Popov)
- Lea & Perrin's Worchestershire Sauce
- Salt
- Pepper
- Garlic Salt
- Celery Salt
- Celery Stalk
You can serve iced, or, refrigerated.
Tootsie Roll
This is an easy one, usually best for women who don't know what they want when they come to the bar.- Fill Glass 3/4 up with Orange Juice
- Top off with Creme de Coco, mix thoroughly, and serve cold.
Tastes just like Tootsie Roll candy!
Using the Tootsie Roll as a point of departure, I have another one...- Use same amt. of O.J.
- Top off with Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum
- Add one dash of sugar
OK, OK, yes, I came up with this after I had been drinking other things that night!
...which, BTW, makes me think...You know those Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies that taste so d@mned good after they've been sitting in the freezer? I wonder if mixing Creme de Coco and Creme de Menthe would produce a similar taste?...hmm...
I'll get back to you on that one...

Here the bomb of all summer time drinks... its called the Bullfrog.
In a standard issue pitcher combine 1 container frozen lime-ade (similar to lemon-ade concentrate, but lime) and 10 oz vodka. Add a few cups of ice and add Ginger ale or Sprite until the pitcher is full... mix well and enjoy.

Now that sounds like a good summer drink ! Something else good is just filling a watermelon with vodka and letting it soak over night - tastes great at a tailgate party! |

| I was sailing with some folks in a local regatta at Tyndall and one of the ladies had a thermos jug full of something called "Yellow Birds." Fantastic on a warm day, and it seems they can also impact navigation, sail trimming, and other sailing activities. No idea what's in a Yellow Bird, but it's a winner. Maybe some of you sailors know the recipe... |

Hey there guys ! Titleist was kind enough to post the recipe for a drink called the "Yucca Front" over in the Jeremiah Weed thread . Thanks man!
Quote:
Parrothead,
As advertised, the Yucca recipe has arrived.
7-12 Lemons, depending on size (9 seems to be close to the right number)
7- 12 Packets Sweet and Low to taste
1 750-ml Bottle of Vodka, your favorite brand
Ice
Put some ice in a 2-gallon jug (clean jug is optional); not full-yet. Cut the lemons in half and squeeze them into the jug, put the lemons in the jug, too. Add about half the Vodka. Add the Sweet and Low (Obviously taste is the key factor here--the last couple of pack seem to really increase the sweetness a lot.) Add the rest of the Vodka, then fill the jug the rest of the way to the top with ice. Put the lid on the jug--firmly, you don't want this stuff to leak on anything. Then wrap the jug with a towel; use some duct tape to secure it so that it stays wrapped, (kinda looks like a little barrel cactus, doesn't it?).
Now comes the tradition and group participation part: Shake the jug CONTINUOUSLY for 20 minutes (tradition). When one shaker gets tired, he passes it to the next shaker, again not stopping, but shaking during the actual handoff (more tradition). At the end of the 20 minutes, stop shaking, but leave the towel wrapped around the jug. Remove the lid, drink DIRECTLY FROM the JUG (you guessed it, more tradition). Pass the jug from participant to participant until the Yucca is gone. Repeat as desired...
Well, there you have it. Enjoy. Let me know how it goes...

Now, I don't normally double post, but TC, my girlfriend has a suggestion for your bloody mary recipe . I don't see tabasco in your recipe, but a lot of people use it in bloody marys to add some spice. She suggests that instead of tabasco, try adding some horse radish to your next one . You might like it as much as I did ! |

Tabasco Sauce! G-D people, I'm so d@mn forgetful lately! I meant to put it on the list of ingredients, but left it off.
When I get my $hit together, I'll post some more recipes

Stefaan, I actually do like it !
TC, trust me on the horse radish. It doesn't leave the vinegar taste of the Tabasco. Looking forward to future posts ! |

| My dad was a (self-proclaimed) world champeen Bloody Mary builder and he was an advocate of horseradish and he would always squeeze a section of lime in there, too. |

We used to have a Viper bar section on the old F-16.net/Three-Four-Nine website where we had a few recipies for cocktails and snacks that were in one way or another related to the F-16.
Here's that old list:
Afterburner- Cold Sambuca
- Cold Chartruse
- Chilled Vodka
"Serve as a Double Shot."
Tom Collins- 2 oz. Gin
- 1 oz. Lemon Juice
- 1 Tsp. Superfine Sugar
- 3 oz. Club Soda
- 1 Maraschino Cherry
- 1 Orange Slice
"In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the gin, lemon juice, and sugar. Then shake well and strain into a Collins glass alomst filled with ice cubes. Add the club soda. Stir and garnish with the cherry and the orange slice."
Viper
The Viper consists of the following liquors in equal amounts.- Midori
- Malibu Rum
- Vodka
- Pinnapple Juice
- Ammaretto
"It is usually served as a shot but can be served other ways as well. It was developed on the shores of San Diego in a Bar called Moose McGillicuddys."
Afterburner Hot Sauce- Serving Size: 32
- Preparation Time: 0:10
- Categories: Chile Pepper Dishes, Sauces Jamaican/Carribean
- Condiments: Food Processor/Blender
Ingredients- 1/2 dried chile ancho
- 1 fresh red Dutch, Thai, or jalapeno chile
- 16 fresh Scotch bonnet or habanero chiles preferably orange or golden yellow
- 1 cup coarsely chopped yellow onion
- 4 medium garlic cloves
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon light or amber rum
- 1 cup distilled white vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
Preparation Method
"Submerge the ancho in a pot of hot water and soak until soft, about 20 minutes. Chop ancho finely and reserve. Roast and peel the Dutch chile. Stem, seed, and finely chop the chile.
Stem and seed the Scotch bonnets, leaving the inner membranes (and, if desired, a few seeds). Combine the Scotch bonnets with onion and garlic in a food processor and process until very finely chopped.
Combine lemon juice, rum, and vinegar in a nonreactive pan and bring to a boil. Pour liquid into processor, add the oregano and Dutch chile, and process lightly. Add the ancho teaspoon by teaspoon, processing briefly in between, pulsing only enough to obtain a smooth, yellow-orange sauce, highlighted by red flecks. (Overprocessing or adding too much ancho will result in a redder sauce, which is also quite beautiful.) Refrigerated, this sauce will keep 6 weeks." |
