Rafale Raptor "kill" 2009
Some interesting HUD cam footage was released yesterday from a French Rafale partaking in an exercise in the UAE with Raptors. The French pilots manages to get in position for an IR guided missile shot at 3:07 (not necessarily a kill if countermeasures were deployed in the simulation). The official results of the exercise is the Raptor was undefeated but 5 engagements ended in a draw.

4:45 looks like a legit gun kill. Right before that though the Rafale ran out of airspeed and stalled out trying to catch the Raptor going over the top. Looks like the Raptor didn't extend properly and the Rafale fell right onto his 6 o'clock.
I also like how the Rafale's radar keeps losing target track on the Raptor even though they're WVR.

@sferrin My understanding is the engagements were limited to visual range basic fighter maneuvering (BFM). The French would not have fared so well if bvr was allowed

Claims of external tanks on the F-22 prove false on examination of video.

If one thing is clear at 4:45 it's that the fight was over and F22 backthrottled and stopped maneuvering, after the exercise has been terminated and Rafale got "FUEL" all over the HUD when somehow managed to "score".
This is also the reason why French pilot didn't call "Guns" (unlike "Fox2").
Also if I may add, the piloting skill displayed by French pilot is as laughable as is the fact that vanilla Rafale lost 270KIAS in a 10+° nose up ~7g U-turn, at 13kft.
As for the F22, not sure why he remained in the horizontal, when he could've easily beat Rafale's wannabe single circle in the vertical, ending up the fight even before it begun.
Anyway, it's truly sad to see AdlA rearing its ugly head again with cheapshots like this...again, it's a truly sad airforce that risks its own and the security of the exercise partner by releasing this material in what appears to be a desperate attempt to elevate Rafale's rating.
Cheers, Cola
You know, I think that is the first time I have heard clear audio of someone pulling Gs in (mock) combat. You can really hear the pilot strain.
Einstein got it backward: one cannot prevent a war without preparing for it.

It'll be curious to see how these sorts of training exercises evolve over the next few years, especially with integration of the -9X Block II on the Raptor (and if they fund a HMD).

So much bitterness
It is not the first gun kill Rafale scores on the Raptor and it is not the last. There are others HUD tapes, they might make it on the web one day.
