Judge Dick Ambrose got to fly with the Thunderbirds on Friday August 31st 2007.
Quote:
Twenty-two years after he retired from professional football as a member of the Browns' beloved Kardiac Kids, Ambrose, 54, found himself reliving some of his tougher NFL moments as a passenger with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
The Thunderbirds were in town to participate in the Cleveland National Air Show.
Ambrose, now a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas judge, was given a 40-minute ride Friday so CBS Sports could film his experience for a show before the Browns' home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 9.
The former linebacker, whose nickname was "Bam Bam," said he remained clear-headed for all but a brief moment of the flight. His pilot, Air Force Maj. Tad Clark, had just come out of a 180-degree turn at 650 mph over Lake Erie.
The strong gravitational pull from the high-speed maneuver drained the blood from Ambrose's brain, leaving him on the brink of a blackout.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier will get in an F-16 at McEntire Joint National Guard Base on Thursday and take to the skies. The ride will last about one hour.
Spurrier is expected to fly with a combat pilot out of the 169th Fighter Wing of the South Carolina Air National Guard.
He got his ride though he lost his cookies. Twice from what I was told by the ground crew. |

| Yeah I was sitting on the truck when Nick Leche got his ride at Spangdahlem. The first jet he was in shut down because the camera they put in the back seat had dead batteries. They started back up, and then it ground aborted for a red light in the handle. Then he got in our other D-model and got his full ride. The pilot said he tried everything he could think of but could make him get sick. He was a major a$$, he was getting down from the ladder and scrapped up his helmet, one of our guys took it from him and told what he did, and he said something like "it doesnt matter they'll just give me another one". |

It was an NZY-based S-3. |

Yeah...S-3. And here's a pic from Wikipedia.
A funny (and unsubstantiated) story I heard 'bout that one was that as they were still some distance from the boat, the pilot briefed the Prez on how to respond to the controller after he cleared 'em for the pass. Basically, "Give him our callsign and fuel weight (which I'll say was 3500 pounds 'cause I can't recall what it really was), say where we are on the glideslope and say whether or not you can see the ball".
As they were cleared, the Prez comes up on freq and says, "Navy 1, 3500 on glideslope, I have the balls..."
As we say in the South....Bless his li'l ol' heart! |

Once again didn't Dubya fly F-106's for the Texas ANG. Besides he's the President if i were the President I'd be flying in fighters all the time. In fact if i were President I'd have an F-16D in the AF1 color scheme.
Can someone photoshop an F-16D Air Force One style? |

Columbia financier Darla Moore was taken on a ride on Saturday with the S.C. Air National Guard based at McEntire Joint National Guard Base.
Football head coaches Steve Spurrier of USC and Tommy Bowden of Clemson also have taken the rides before. |

Can I be the first to ask,
So, in layman's terms, she's just some rich b*tch from South Carolina's capital city? And here I sit, knowing that I had months and months of training away from my home and my family just so I could get the opportunity to fly in a cargo compartment for a living? I must ask, just how F-ed up is my life?
If I were that driver, I would've made sure that she'd never want to look at another plane for the rest of her life, much less want to fly in another one. |

We flew Bruce Willis at Mountain home with the 389th. He was great and after he landed on their way to debrief he closed the door in the faces of Entertainment Tonight cameras and all the big wheels and hung out with the crew dawgs after their roll call and signed autographs and took pictures.
Ops guys made a name tag for his flight suit that said "Demi's Husband"! He took all the ribbing pretty good be he didn't bring Demi and that bummed everyone out!! |
