Anyone knows anything about this plane?
I was reading this book on different Migs and they touched a little on this new experimental plane. What else is there about this plane? |

Are talking about the MiG-1.42 by any chance?
If so, then I can tell you that it was supposed to be a 5th generation fighter, massively powerful (max speed estimated at 2600 km/h), intended to be outfitted with an electronically scanned phased array (I think ), supposedly capable of supercruise, thrust vectored engines, supposedly able to carry the whole range of Russian A-A and A-G weapons and, Mikoyan claims, stealth (Western observers are skeptical about this given the aerodynamic demonstator's shape and unerwing pylons).
However, due to lack of funding, the project is currently only in the aerodynamical demonstrator phase, more precisely just one plane, designated MiG 1.44.
There are rumors that Mikoyan approached the Chinese government for funding, but I don't know of any conclusive results and to be honest, given China J-10 and CF-1 projects, combined with the aquisition of Su-30s, I'm skeptical the Chinese would want yet ANOTHER 5th generation fighter. |

MiG Il?
All MiGs are MiG-something and all Ilyushins are Il-something. Unless this is a Mikoyan/Ilyushin collaboration, nothing would ever be designated MiG Il-something... |

To Habu,
you misread the name, it is MIG 1.42 indeed, as it is not an official name (like MiG-23 for example) but a name given by the MIG company. Ilyshin has no part in it, the plane was designed to be the MIG (with a big "I" since it changed at the end of 90s) counterpart to the Sukhoi S-37, but it failed to go as far because of MIG big money problems. |
