Hello to everybody.
I am new in this field and i think that this must be the most appropiate place to ask the following question.
I recently bought a book about dogfighting and combat maneuvers.
When the author discuss certain maneuvers, he provides a sketch showing the symbols of the air planes and the path they follow in the sky while they perform these maneuvers.
The sketch is very simple . A simple line shows the movement of the planes.
However there is a certain graphical symbol which puzzles me.
To be more specific , from time to time i see that at some points along the line which describes the movement of the planes,
there are two very small parallel dashes, perpendicular to the line which shows the movement path of the planes.
It looks like the following (approximately)
-----------ii----------------
Does anybody know about the meaning of this symbol?
Thank you |

| In drafting that usually indicated a clipped out length of a line. So the diagram would be showing motion, but not the distance relative to the motion? I don't know, in BFM diagrams it might mean something else. |

It means "Climb"
One line means descend. Some communities use them to distinguish between "above" and "below."

Climbs can also be drawn as a short line in front of a long line, and a descend will be the oposite:
---------i|------->(Climb)
or
----------|i---->(Descend) |
