Easy question:

When did the 162nd FW start applying the "AZ" tail code?

Thanks

Two Cents Sometime between summer 1994 and summer 1997. My guess is 1995-ish just from published pics of ANG wings with new fins I saw that year. Sorry I can't nail it down any closer than that.

Also most ANG wings started applying tailcodes after the change from TAC to ACC in the early to mid 90's when most of the ANG wings started getting mission changes from fighter interceptor to general purpose.

LinkF-16SimDude, yes, I thought maybe around 1995 ish. I've been putting 1995 in the serial database, but thought maybe someone knew a more accurate date as mine was just a guess.

Cheers

A-7'S had "AZ" on the tail. When we started receiving 16's in the late 80's early 90's (I'd have to research a little to pinpoint exact date) the jets where painted with the ANG emblem and Arizona spelled out in script with the AZ flag as a fin flash.

162TFG started with the AZ tailcode as early as March 1978
on their A-7D and A-7Ks

Yeah, the A-7's certainly had the AZ tail code but what I guess I really want to know is when the AZ tail code started to be applied to the F-16? So far looks like some time in 1995.

Also, welcome to the forum Hawk1.

Cheers,
Jon
