Hey gals and guys, I am new to the forum. I live in Europe and is 26 years old. English is my second languages so don't be to hard on me for spelling bad sometimes.
I am a big fan off modern fighter jet like the F-16 but my heart belong to the old Saab J-35 Draken I grew up outside an air force base (F10) and I saw those plane everyday to bad that they are al gone today
This looks like a nice place to hang out. Who knows, I may even be able to contribute something useful at times.

Hi Malin, welcome to F-16.net.
Even though the F-16 is my favorite aircraft, I to agree that the Draken is very cool looking aircraft. It reminds me a lot of the F-16XL. Too bad it retired.
Sorry, but I haven't got a clue which plane those parts belong to, but surely someone on this site will.
Good luck!

the Draken and the Grippen are still flown today by a company called Flight International out of Patrick Henry Field in Newport News Virginia. Flight International (among many other things) uses them as an agressor squadron against the navy. They also drag traget practice streamers and such as well for the navy....

Yes, FI has the Draken and the Viggen. The Gripen is the new one that Sweden adopted a few years ago... my bad...

Hi Malin !
I'm from Norway and have only seen swedish aircraft twice.
The first time was many years ago, when my family and I took the ferry from Oslo to Kiel and two Draken's make a low level pass over the ship. That was really cool, I don't know if they were swedish or danish. The second time I saw swedish aircraft was when I was in the army and we went to sweden to fire Robot-70 missiles. We flew a C-130 to an airport in northern Sweden (can't remember the name) and when we got out of the aircraft, two Viggen's landed and taxied by.....great looking aircraft. I really like the new Grippen, and I hope that when Norway trade in their F-16s, they will buy the Grippen !

Buzzing civilian ferry’s is a bad habit Swedish draken pilot hade in the old good days so they where probably Swedish pilots the two viggen plane you saw on the airport what paint schema did the use? The camo or the grey colour?
I have never been a big fan off Jas-39 I have seen that plane crashed twice the first time 1989 in Linköping my father did work on the air force base and I where with him to see Gripen for the first time in my life and we where standing beside the runway and when the plane come in for landing the left-wing did hit the runway and the plane made an un-controlled flight, that ended on his back alongside the runway. The second time where in Stockholm Water Festival 1993 when the plane come crashing down in central Stockholm 600 meter from where I where standing

Well, Malin, I seem to remember that the Viggens were Grey.
And with regards to the Gripen, most new aircraft (at least in the past) have had some problems early on. I do seem to remember that there was an issue with the early F-16's as well? Why would I like the RNoAF to buy the Gripen ? Well I do belive it's more cost effective than the alternatives. And in a joint exercise between Norway and Sweden ( I guess it was to test the new Gripen), the swedes kicked the RNoAF F-16's a$$ on every A-A mission. And I do think that it's better to support our neighbour's economy than the US/UK !

Hehe I like the Austrian J35ÖE Draken those plane where from the beginning J35D in Sweden and in 1985 those plane terrible obsolete and worn-out. But still Austria wanted to buy them so after extensive modifications they were given new name J35ÖE and sold to Austria the last one where delivered 1989.
a funny thing is mush of the Draken training is done in Sweden as Austrian airspace is very confined.
this is how I want to remember Draken painted in the original colour waiting for orders to take off
Picture taken 1987 at F18

I have heard about the Norwegian F-16 VS Jas-39 and I where surprised to see that F-16 where without a chance against Gripen. Jas-39 is a damn good plane.
but i like the old Draken more i have so many memories associate to that plane. but i am getting old an grumpy and dreaming off the good old days Like my former Boyfriend in America he still belive that the best fighter jet is the F4 Phantom

LOL
That's kind of strange Malin !
That your ex-boyfriend likes the F-4. Why? Well, because the first plane I fell in love with was the F-4 Phantom II. It still holds a very special place in my heart and although my favourite plane is now the F-16, the F-4 is a strong runner up, the Rino is so massive, powerfull and it looks great (it really does !).

The Phantom is cool but but I have never seen one in real life
But regarding F-16 I think that Sweden should have bought them instead for Gripen it would been mush cheaper for the air force. We can’t really afford them so right now 110 new planes are standing in hangars. Norway can buy them from the Swedish air force and you can have our Combat Vehicle 90 and al our old BMP 1 to
