I am surprised no one has mentioned the NSX in this thread. This is the car that showed the rest of the world how to build a RELIABLE semi-exotic, easy to live with, marvelous handling, fast enough be very entertaining. My '94 has never had a failure of any kind, just normal maintenance. I challenge any Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette, etc to match that. Resale value is as good as it gets, taking some of the hurt out of the MSRP. Back in the mid-90s, their magazine ads said its styling was inspired by the F-16. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was the first car with variable valve timing, all aluminum construction, and traction control (1991).
Now, about old men driving Corvettes and such. You kids will someday be old men (if you are lucky) and I hope you still have the fire in your belly to drive a car like that. I certainly do. We mostly waited to get a car like that because we were responsible adults, taking care of our wives, kids, and parents, paying for homes, college, etc. Now, by God it's our turn and we are going to enjoy the hell out of it. I have wanted a car like an NSX since I was 16 and waited until I was 59 to get it. Fiberglass toupee, plastic *****, my a$$!!! You little shi*s don't have a clue! No offense intended. |

John,
I see you're still pretty new to F-16.net, so welcome aboard !
I can tell you that while I'm only 30 years young, I know what you mean and I have to agree with you ! I sold cars for over two years in San Diego (Chevy and Honda) and I had a couple of opportunities to take brand new Corvettes, SS Camaros, and even an S2000 out on the highways. NOTHING LIKE IT !!!
Something I noticed was that the Camaros seemed to go to the young guys, the Corvettes to the older guys. Know why? The older guys could afford the Vettes !
I'm still trying to pay stuff off, fondly remembering my late '88 IROC, and scheming to figure out how to afford a '68 to '73 Stingray .
I love the looks of the NSX, but haven't had the chance to drive one yet. Have fun and enjoy your dream car - sounds like almost too much fun !!!
PS - If you haven't heard about it yet, you might want to check out the Silver State Classic Challenge open road race - go fast on public highways LEGALLY ! |

Parrothead, thanks for the tip about Silver State. I knew about it years ago, but did not know they still ran it. Sorry about the rant concerning old men driving Corvettes. Just have to vent sometimes when clueless people make insulting statements.
I really do compare the NSX to the F-16. Beautiful, a great ride, still very capable, but past its prime and overshadowed by the latest and greatest. |

John,
No problemo on the Silver State . I'd probably go run in the Touring class in my 2002 Chevy Cavalier (90 MPH class) if I had all the entrance fees and the $$$ for the helmet.
No need to apologize about the Corvette comments - I think it's true about half the time !
I hear you about the NSX, but I wonder what would happen with a few upgrades to the engine, computer(s), suspension and brakes? Sounds like it should follow in the F-16's footsteps with a Service Live Extension Program !
Have fun ! |

Someday before I die I will race in that. I've followed the event since the big red 69 Camaro kicked everyone's a$$. Although, as much as I love them, it won't be in a cutlass. Great drag cars, but crappy for things such as this. Most likely will be a 99-04 Mustang. Bellybutton car, but the bang for the buck factor can't be beat. |

Awww, I have always wanted an NSX!!! I am jealous, a beautifully engineered Honda! One of my dream cars!! I had the pleasure of driving one of these mid-engined machines and the handling was AWESOME!! The speed too! I really did consider buying one but the servicing costs scared the crap out of me!! I could have been wrong! |

| Snypa777, routine servicing is normal in all respects - oil changes, etc. Tires (tyres) can be expensive because some brands wear quickly. Do your homework and you can find excellent tires that also wear well. The biggie is the cam belt and water pump replacement, but they last 70,000 miles. Insurance where I live (Texas) is the same as any other car of similar cost, with no penalty for high performance. What really helps is that there are rarely any problems with the car and resale value is excellent. I have owned mine for 8 years and the current value is 80% of what I paid for it. I don't know what they cost in the UK, but maybe you can find a low miles mid-1990s car for a reasonable price. |

johnwill, THAT is a beautiful motor there! Because the NSX is one of a kind, I wondered how many parts would be common to other Honda cars, apart from the engine. That would be a driver on parts costs I thought. Thanks for the heads up on servicing, I forgot about the legendary reliability of Japanese cars as well!
They aren`t cheap over here in the UK. Check out this picture of a US imported Acura NSX, 1991 @ $28,000! A 1997 model would set you back about $40,000. Big money for a car! I must admit though that the pictured car is very tempting and the price is ok.
For the time being I will soldier on with my Audi TT 225, Quattro, I am having much fun with this car! I am running 300bhp at the moment, it can handle a lot more but you start breaking things above 300bhp so I would have to strengthen her up a bit and get bigger brakes. Dont really want to go down that road!
I would also admit your NSX is more pleasing to the eye than the Audi!
Happy motoring! |

snypa777, glad you enjoy your TT, as that is all that really matters. These things are mostly toys, so enjoyment is king! The prices you mention are about the same as here and sound reasonable compared to other cars in the UK. I watch Top Gear here and the cost of new cars there seems quite high, mostly higher taxes I am guessing. The '91 you show is stunning in red, but my personal opinion is that cars with add-on body kits and aftermarket wheels may be an indication of being driven hard. All '91 - '94 cars came with black roofs (except '94 Brooklands Green like mine) so the red one has been repainted, possibly due to crash damage. Certainly looks good though.
I don't know of any common Honda parts on the NSX, but there proabably are some. All the visible parts are unique to NSX, as far as I can tell. |

Hope this attachment works......Go ahead and make your "Rookie/Newbie" remarks and I am not sure about most folks on here, but I laready have my dream car!
YES! This is mine, all mine and I have the receipts, stained clothes and scarred knuckles to prove it. Took a lot of time to get it to where it is a daily driver and cleans up easy enough to put in a show or two when I have time... |

I WILL own an NSX one day...oh yes...I will own one. In fact, I'm looking for it to be my next car after I pay off the Impreza. And I'm deathly old school, so I'll be looking for an early-mid 90's car. I like the original 5-spoke rims the best, and the eliptical exhaust tips. |
