Hey, once I enlist, ANG that is, reserves, will I get yelled at a lot? I hate getting yelled at.

I hear from some people the bases are pretty chill, like a normal job more than military, is this in any way true?

I understand that in training you get yelled at and i can live with that, but is this something that happens all day long while you're working?

Thanks

Not as a general rule. But if you screw up and depending on where you work and the impact it has.........it all depends. I'll tell you that if your one of my crew chiefs and you squander getting a jet ready............It's a 100% chance your going to hear it from me!
Have a great day!

I'm sure that if someone screws up they'll hear it from their bosses, and understanbably so, but thanks for the input.

it won't be like yelling like you'd get at boot camp... but the won't let you off when you screw up. Yelling is primarily bootcamp, the type you're probably thinking of, like, get in your face scream their head off type of yelling. And when going through boot camp, don't laugh yelling off, but know, that is the worst they can do to you. Except for kick you out of boot camp

At Lackland you WILL get yelled at. (BECAUSE YOU ARE THE LOUSIEST, DUMBEST MOST INCOMPETENT PIECE OF HUMAN GARBAGE YOUR TI HAS EVER SEEN IN HIS ENTIRE AIR FORCE CAREER!!!) - Nothing personal, we all got that at one point or another.

Tech school is several notches cooler. You're still under very close supervision, and will probably catch a reaming if you act stupid. Not usually from the instructors, more likely from the STAs.

Out in the real Air Force alot depends on where you end up and who you are working for. In any job it's possible to have a boss that's a jerk, but in general you'r not likely to get chewed out unless you screw up. Screw ups are relative of course. They don't yell at you for the really big ones, that's when they reach for the paperwork and you KNOW you are in trouble.

If you are considering a career in aircraft maintenance of any kind you'll need to remember that even though it is the best enlisted career field in the Air Force it's also got a deadly serious side. ie. you make a mistake, someone can die.

Getting yelled at has various levels of intensity. When you work for someone you respect, and you work your a$$ off for them. Then you let them down, and they come up to you and say "I always said you are the one to get it done. What happened?" and all you can do is say, "I f**ked up". Yea thats an a$$ chewing. And you will feel like the "MOST INCOMPLETE PIECE OF HUMAN GARBAGE YOUR BOSS HAS EVER SEEN" when it happens.

Always remember this ONE key thing when doing maintenance....... USE THE BOOK!!!!!! If you remember that, you will NEVER, and I mean NEVER be wrong.

If you're a weekender you won't get yelled at much unless you're an idiot. But no matter what kind of person you are you won't get much respect from the full time technicians. Most of them think weekenders wouldn't make good wheel chocks even if you painted us yellow and stuck a rope up our butts. Most of them think that way because they think weekenders don't know much about the jets except how to gas them and put air in the tires. This is a generalization but I've been doing the ANG thing for 20+ years now and I've been in tons of units and (in my opinion) for the most part it holds true.

Forget anything that anyone said about getting yelled at...the short answer is NO. The guard is incredibly laid back... probably moreso than a civilian job.

Then again, if you don't want to get yelled at...don't get married either Smile
