OK, new here so i may get spanked, but when you're sick you go to the doctor, so i figure there be giants here....
I am playing a flight sim game (not F-16)... this is offline and is set up in a mission editor.
I am "flying" against an opponent who has a longer stick...getting shot down because I cannot seem to get inside my missle range to launch a missle to get him to manuever and point his noise away...once I can get him turned I can get the kill.
Have flown an "S" shape at the radar gimbal limits to try to close the distance, but his first missle might miss, but the second and third nail me because I am down in the dirt with no paddle. I am beaming his radar prior to launch and releasing chaff and flares...his lock breaks but is quickly reacquired. The F-14 is my opponent...
Thanks |

hmm sounds like lock-on to me
tactic (in game) i'd use would be one of two...
If in the mountainous areas I would (radar off) close as fast as possible whilst ground hugging to try and get close enough to fight.
But my main tactic... the F-14 uses Aim-54 on you, approach head on at a higher altitude going full burner in an aircraft carrying active missiles (Mig-29S or F-15). Its ok to have your radar on but don't lock target when approaching; however approach with ECM on. Wait for him to lock you before locking yourself. When he fires just keep on going, as soon as in range let off 2-3 R-77 or Aim-120 counting 5 seconds between launches.
At this point, turn 180 and dive at 45 degrees for the deck and go as fast as you can. Once at the deck, keep full burner but turn off ECM. There is a high chance the missiles fired at you were in HOJ mode so will lose track. Otherwise you have a good chance of outrunning the missile; dump chaff as it gets closer.
Eventually the F-14 will break off to evade losing lock, if your first missile misses, good chance the second will catch him with no energy.
Ok not a real tactic used in real life but has paid off in the game . The AI aircraft lock on to you later IF a) your radar is off and you are approaching from an angle or b) if approaching head-on you don't lock them up with radar, they don't see you as a threat.

I am not using the R77....the original lock on does not give the SU33 this capability...the only way you can get it is by using LOPE, a pylon editor...i "fly" offline only, but the boys flying online frwon on the R77..so i use an em or er and have to guide this.....otherwise thanks for the advice......I used the missle padlock yesterday and did a roll after angling off 30 degrees from the missle and this seemed to work sometimes. Anyway, this is a lot of fun, but very frustrating..and unlike real pilots i thank God for the "fly again" button, otherwise i would be just a hunk of burning metal......... |

You could also use ET, its IR guided and homes on itself in terminal.
I remember some french guy posted some youtube videos in internet describing how to beat F-14 with Russian jets in Lock On. As well as I remember he was pulling hard barrell rolls before impact to evade Phoenixes. |

Thats a great site cdr sky! I keep fighting the urge to post it on my StumbleUpon account and other social bookmark sites as I don't want to crash it with too much traffic.
Some good advice on this thread, I don't have a desktop PC powerful enough to run Lock On: Modern Air Combat at the moment, but I'll keep an eye on this for future reference.
By the way fido88 what flight controls are you using for the game? I'm fond of Saitek's X52 Flight Control system myself... |
