| Habu, I have reviewed some photos of 120 FS F-16s and, while I did not find pics of 87-0274, I did find pics of 87-0241 and 87-0254, both Block 30F, and both had the vent present and the large mouth MCID. |

Hey guys,
I have a reply from William G from ARC forum. I thought I forwarded his reply here.
That is an ECS Vent on panel 2404, it Was added to the airframe for the "Future Addition" of the old ASPJ system.
The vent was there to increase the airflow over the avionics in the bay to keep things nice and cool when it was supposed to have been full of all those nice new boxes that GD promised us with the Block 30+ airframes.
If I remember corectly from my books and manuals. that vent was the opposite end of the vent located under the gun on the left side of the airframe.
Habu,
nice work. 1/48 scale? Hope to see more of the in progress pic.
cheers, |

Pumpkin, interesting - you probably already know the enlarged base of the vertical stab that appeared on Block 25s was designed to house the ASPJ system on future blocks. ASPJ was to be part of USAF Block 30/32 (not 25) that is why the small scoop on the leading edge of the dorsal and the small vents on either side of the dorsal were added on Block 30/32 - note a Block 25 does not have these scoops/vents on the dorsal housing.
This also explains why the right side vent under the canopy is absent on D-models. The aforementioned vents on the dorsal only appear on C-models, never on Ds. I never put together the fact that Ds never had the forward vent you mentioned or the dorsal vents I mentioned until now. So I am surmising that D-models were never slated to get ASPJ installed, would that be correct? Similarly, B-model ADFs never got the AN/ARC-200 radio installed so they never got the bulged dorsal housing like the A-model ADFs did.
Now I'll have to go back and compare C/D photos to see if only the C-models have the intake scoop on the left side to feed this vent.
Veeeelly intellesting..... (bad Artie Johnson impression) |

Can of worms=open
So the vent is in, and I'll have to scrounge up an MCID intake. But yes, the model is 1/48, it's the Hasegawa Block 30 Misawa. But I'm doing it up in OIF colors of the CO ANG. |

Hi habu2,

umm....I am not too sure about that. In fact, with the latest block of the D working as a Strike Viper, I would think that, the ASPJ are really more indispensable on the D.

Sorry habu2, you were referring to this 'intake'? And you're going back over to the 100 over pictures!!? Have fun, |

Sorry Habu,
I was referring to the panel aft of the gun. I wasn't sure if habu2 was referring to those 'intake', feeding the vent on the right.

| Oh, gotcha....but that shot shows the port side, and all we've been talking about is the starboard side. |

Sorry Habu,
I was trying to id the scoop in habu2's reply. "Now I'll have to go back and compare C/D photos to see if only the C-models have the intake scoop on the left side to feed this vent"
cheers, |

| Ah..see now that makes sense...I do believe the kit contains that piece. I'll have to look tonight, and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS....I've been making models for 24 years, and I make a n00b mistake.... |

wow, I guess there has been quite a number of confusions in this thread over the left & right, port and starboard....
habu2, if my memories serve, all of the RSAF D Viper does not have the scoop on the left. Hope that helps in your 'studies'.
Habu, you have fun on your model!
Over n Out,
Picture from ARC. More...here
