Supposedly the F-22s were downed by ESSMs? Well, if they got close enough to hit the frigate with their 20mm cannon, they deserved to be.. what a strange story.
Yeah, if they F-22 has to go on a gun run for you to hit it, well... |

| Sounds more like a video game scenario if you ask me. 2 F-22's downed 20+ F-18's then engage an LCF with guns? Are you f@'?ing kidding me? Assuming every missile available worked as planned, that's only 16 plausible kills. I smell nothing here but either fishing for information or complete ignorance. Given the accuracy of information above regarding the LCF's systems, I smell fish. |

The F-22 could've easily engaged the F/A-18's with guns. As to why it "attacked" a frigate with guns - well you got me there! |

| Agreed madrat but it was only an exercise. |

| You actually agree this nonsense happened? Wow. I beg you to confirm this actually occurred and with references to back it up. Otherwise, the subject is misnomer. |

I don't know much more than what I've heard from the guy who was serving on the LCF at that time and that is exactly what he told me happened.
And it's not up to me to speculate on why those F-22's engaged the LCF with guns. Who knows? Maybe someone high ranking officers wanted to see the capabilities of a platform like an LCF's against F-22's in close range? Maybe they were ordered to take out the LCF at all cost in order for the other ships to sink the aircraft carrier? Maybe they expended all their missiles on the F-18's and were ordered to engage the LCF before RTB?
Isn't the main purpose of an exercise to expose your own weaknesses, gain knowledge/experience and if needed and to use that to adapt formulate new tactics?

Yeah, not even a hint of such an exercise seems to have surfaced elsewhere.. one can't forget it was bar fodder after all.. |

I'm not saying the exercise did or didn't happen. But for the sake of making my point, let's just say it did. The yoot on the boat should be reminded, in a very strident way by his superior officer, that he doesn't need to be blabbin' details of said exercise, classified or not, where such high-value assets and tactics are involved. Not only may some interested parties in the APAC region get more of a whiff of F-22 performance, but they may look closer at the LCF than maybe they had before. And how is that a good thing I ask ya?
In another time and another war, people were sent to the Aleutians and other garden spots for having such lapses in lip discipline. |

Depends on how long the F-22 can remain stealthy for, which depends on the sophistication of the radars it's up against, and how many sources there are. The main problem is that the F-22's internal bay is just over 4m long. The longest range weapon it can carry internally is a JSOW, which has a maximum range of 70nmi when launched from high altitude at speed. The JSOW C1 (AGM-154C would be the one used because it has an IR terminal seeker, the other 2 are GPS/INS only, so can only be used on a moving target with position updates from satellites/drones.
A further development, the powered JSOW-ER is in progress, with a projected range of 300nmi. It has the same dimensions as the unpowered JSOW so should still be compatible with the internal bay of the F-22/F-35.

Of course, a slow munition like this would probably be toasted by a CIWS anyway. |

The F-22 cannot carry the JSOW.
I can only carry the 1k JDAM and the SDB1. |

| At the moment yes but the bay is definitely compatible with the likes of the JSOW, HARM, Harpoon and 2k JDAM, they just haven't been qualified yet. The 2k LGB and JASSM are too long though. |

| Evidence? There appears to be another 0.5m when the AMRAAMs (3.72m) are fitted. |

| weight, compatibility with software, width, depth, fin size, the F-22 bay was a 6 AMRAAM bay that they had to squeeze a JDAM into. |
