Reno Air Races: Anyone Going? Anyone Been?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A bunch of my buddies are going to RAR from the 12th through the 16th (we are actually only going two days, Friday and Sat).
Has anyone been there?
Anyone been on "High-G Ridge"?
Any tips or tricks on how to maximize the experience?
What should we bring, other than cameras, binoculars, hats, cigars and booze?
And a crash helmet!
Good bars (not casinos) to hang out at in Reno?
Favorite restaurants?
Can we bring coolers / beer / soda / water?
All advice and suggestions appreciated!

Went back in the late 90s the year before Miss Ashley II crashed on the start after a structural failure in the tail. It had a Lear 5 wing on a mustang with a counter rotating twin prop. A friend of mine from the 421st took his small son who said "look daddy, they shot it down" when it crashed.
I was watching the live web feed last year when the crash happened. It took hours for the story to make the main stream press. Yet another highly modified mustang (clipped wings, no belly radiotor) suffered structural failure in the tail.
Bring a video camera a good sound recording ability. There is absolutely NOTHING that sounds as sweet as a Rolls Royce Merlin at full song.
