Does anyone know who is getting the first export F-35s UK or Israel. I have read online it might be Israel but it wont say anything for definite.
Before those who keep saying I'm trolling: please note other people have feelings as well! Plus, some of us do not work for LM Boeing BAE EADS and are just wondering if the plane is worth the hype. |

| Keep reading - it will help with your feelings. We don't know who you are and you don't know who I am. Don't take things personally. This is just a forum. And what do you mean by 'export'. There is no 'export' model. They are all the same A,B,C but with some slight modifications according to request such as brake chutes or different refuel probes and the like. Israel has permission under supervision to modify the F-35As it receives if not already modified as F-35Is. The rest of the F-35 world will benefit from Israeli modifications if they wish. Is that a good start. Ask more detailed questions and continue to read this forum. There is an huge amount of information on this forum if you bother to look. Use the SEARCH function. |

I don't work for any of those places either, but even a quick scan of Wikipedia's article on the F-35 would answer most of the questions you've posed. As for being "worth the hype," few of us are worried about performance anymore. The only issues left up in the air now are flyaway and maintenance costs, both of which tend to improve over time in most weapon systems. |

It's an LRIP jet, not a prototype, probably to be used mostly for training. AFAIK, it's current function is merely a matter of software. |

Looks like Israel is getting some funding for their country specific model:
"Lockheed Martin Corp., Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., Ft. Worth, Texas, is being awarded a $206,821,828 modification to a previously awarded cost-reimbursement contract (N00019-12-C-0070). This modification provides for the System Development and Demonstration Phase I Increment 1, in support of F-35A Conventional Take Off and Landing (CTOL) Air System for the Government of Israel under the Foreign Military Sales Program. This modification includes the development of the hardware and software for the Israel F-35A CTOL Air System from the initial requirements development to the Preliminary Design Review (PDR). In addition, the post PDR of hardware only, will continue through finalized requirements, layouts, and build to prints, including production planning data. Work will be performed at Fort Worth, Texas (60 percent); Los Angeles, Calif. (20 percent); Nashua, N.H. (15 percent); and San Diego, Calif. (5 percent), and is expected to be completed in May 2016. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting activity."

Israel already ordered the planes (and going to order 20 more in the next 3 months) unlike UK which going to evaluate BK-1 and BK-2 first.
Israel's first 20 planes scheduled to LRIP-8 (2014 contract).
One thing is weird, the production line is getting better and better but at the moment lack of orders.
Maybe Israel order will be earlier than scheduled |

| It will be UK the first to receive the F-35 first batch production units. UK is biggest investor in JSF only second to US, also its local BAe & Rolls Royce had roles in the F-35's R&D especially in V/STOL and part of avionics. |
