Hello everyone, my name is MEMO. Forgive me if I posted in the wrong forum.
I am from the [Link pending approval] site and there is news recently of a Robotech live action movie. [Link pending approval]
the thread that is most comon to the subject I am about to ask here is
Can we start a mecha casting call?
[Link pending approval]
what is robotech?
Robotech in short is a story of human survival from 3 seperate wars from 3 alien races (who were in war before coming to earth) for a well know flower, "THE FLOWER OF LIFE".
FoL is a food source, power source, fuel source, and even more than that to other races.
to the humans, it is known as a fuel source. retrieved from an alien space craft that crashed on earth.
10 years later, knowing that the ship might bring trouble, all wars in earth stopped and began the construction of "robotech" the use of this fuel and source that it gives new meaning to the " technology" recovered from the ship.
to handle tall aliens, mecha was put into the fighters. transformation that let a plane go one on one with an alien soldier.
in all this, there is also a story of human survival and the main characters involved in it. and a good soap opera of a love triangle.
in the anime, the f-14 concept resembles closely and is used and that is the plane manny remember and is widely collected through toys from the first series [Link pending approval]
but following the steps of the TRANSFORMERS, NEW GALACTICA, and other shows, manny things have been upgraded.
knowing this live action movie will have a plane (close to top gun) that will follow the heroes in the [Link pending approval]
my question [Link pending approval]
what plane can be used for an upgarde in this movie?what other newer versions of aircraft can be used in this movie?
possiblity's are, the f-22. but has been used in transformers for starscream
thanx for any replies. |

Hopefully the F-14 version for me (always had a weakness for that aircraft). Maybe the F-35 Lightning II will make an appearance? Since it's a Robotech movie and the F-35 has a lot of opening doors and whatnot in its VTOL mode that Robotech could make use of. Just my |

The thing that was beautiful about Robotech (or more properly Macross) was the beauty of its mechanical design. Here we are nearly 25 years later, and the designs still hold up pretty well. Sure they're not as flashy or fancy as what we see in current movies or television shows, but it is a classic design.
That being said, I think that if it were to be done well, some streamlining and "tricking out" of the original design would be done, but other than that, the original design of the VF-1 Valkyrie would be used. You can see that this is true especially if you saw the Macross Zero series. it was a 20th anniversary project that came out a few years ago. The first two episodes (of 4 total) are all you need to see to understand what I am talking about! |

| A few years ago lockheed-Martin released design artwork for a Navalised swing-wing F-22. I think with a little modifacation that that design would make a great veritech fighter. |

Robotech is actually a translation and concatenation of three unrelated Japanese Mecha Anime.
Macros is about Earth being caught between the male and female sides of a warrior race that descends from the same alien race that humans do (thus, pro-culture).
Southern cross is about a human space colony being attacked by an alien race of humanoid triplets -- which is where the flower comes in.
Mos Pieta is about the the military space force of Mars colony returning to Earth to liberate it from a semi-hivemind race of quasi energy beings.
Robotech has them all mashed together, altering some of the translation in order to blend one into the next -- particularly in re-locating Southern Cross to Earth.
Of course, then you have the US cartoon Guardians that actually takes that blending and runs with it, taking the characters of the Macros and sending them off on the expedition that is supposed to set up Southern Cross. |

| Thanks for the info count to 10 Anyone have any information if this movie is still in the works? Haven't heard anything myself, and (unless you count the anime) it's not a remake of anything which makes me somewhat doubt if anyone is working on it. Hollywood seems unable to make a movie lately without ripping off an old idea/movie it seems. |

Hard to see that. Macross always uses the engines for legs, so it doesn't lend itself to a single engine fighter.
If you look closely, though, you'll see that none of the Robotech fighters are that close to the F-14. In fact, most of them look more like Flankers. |

| They do all have swing wings, but the intakes are more Flanker-like. |

I've always been a massive fan of the Macross series, and because of that I know the guy who did all the mechanical designs for the Valkyries (and still does, with Macross Frontier) was a huge Tomcat fan. So huge that he based the VF-1 off of the bird. The smoother Vf-0 was supposed to be closer in looks to the F-14s it replaced, iirc.
The venerable F-14 even got its own scene in Macross Zero.
