Anyone care to have a go at explaining any or all of the symbols seen on this F-35 PCD screen please? Thanks. Any guesses would be more informative to me than mine. Very Happy Image from the PDF URL below titled:

I think some of it was covered in this video: http://youtu.be/5lPZDc8mzsY (which was already posted here recently).

For the next few weeks I have a computer with no usable sound so that makes hearing videos difficult. And even if the graphic is NOT from a PCD then any attempt to decipher the glyphs would be welcome. Thanks.

You know you've got a 5th gen sensor suite when you're tracking flying popsicles!

Lead: Do you have a visual on that target?
Wing: Roger. It's a popsicle.
Lead: What flavor?
Wing: Orange-sicle.
Lead: Good god!

That shows just how sensitive the IR sensors are. Cool

Why is the max range only 60 nm?

I thought colors signified elevation, symbols signify friend-foe-unknown.

here's a pretty good demo of F-35's avionics interface, on the simulator:

Thanks - that video looks similar to the one mentioned earlier on another thread:

http://www.f-16.net/f-16_forum_viewtopi ... art-0.html (stroll down to):

Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter cockpit demonstrator hands-on (video) By Zach Honig posted Jul 11th 2012

But without sound here not so helpful to me. In any event here are a good series of screenshots (which were not available earlier so another good find thanks):

Because that's what the pilot selected.

Simple color distinction lends to intuitive discernment for the pilot. Though not shown on the display, surface and air targets are distinguished by unique symbols, and altitude is displayed in unambiguous fashion.

Max range cannot be determined by this display; display is set for 80 nm range but max range could in theory be more. The elevation range is 20-60 at the cursor location which is at 60 nm (halfway between the 40 and 80 nm rings).
