| Back in the good old days during Charlie Scales they used to safety wire and seal the canopy of armed or simulated-armed aircraft. Of course the real "lock" was the armed SP standing guard in front of the HAS. |

| First off let me tell all you guys out there that play 4.0 that you really have no idea about the Viper if that is all you do. The canopy does have a lock and is opened either manually or electrically. As to closing or buttoning up the jet at night which is what us crew dawgs call it is nobody elses business but those who crew it. |

Being condescending to the people on this board is not a good way to gain credibility.

I've been flying the Viper for a few years and haven't noticed a lock, inside our out.

Yes, buttoning up the jet at night is your business. That doesn't mean that I couldn't walk up to any parked F-16, open the canopy, start it, and takeoff within 15 minutes. I've been cross country to bases and airports with no T.A., and done the entire shutdown by myself, with minor postflight including JOAP. Launched myself out the next day, too. Please don't think that I'm saying I'm qualified to do your job, only that it is possible to both launch and recover with no outside assistance. |

What don't you GI's understand about knocking off talk about this subject!! STBYGAIN I have seen you on this board many a times and I respect you, but for the second time in this thread, enough already about whether it can or can't be locked. You haven't seen how it's locked because no one has shown you. As far ar revealing what you have experienced at airports, lets use some OPSEC especially with how often our Vipers frequent the airshow circuit. You have revealed that it is "Easy" to just walk right up and take off with no "assistance." I am not being condescending and I am saying this with the utmost respect to every GI in this forum. Stop with discussing subjects like this with great detail and step-by-step instructions. In case you forget in front of each T.O. there is a statement about the material conatined in each T.O. is prohibited from being exported out of the U.S. and this forum, I know, extends beyond U.S. borders. Let's have fun here, but ensure that "what should stay at home, stays at home."
