Geez, they're all over the place; and it's just as I feared/expected. The F/A-XX will probably be a later-block F-35C, LM mouthpiece Loren Thompson notwithstanding.

AOL Defense has learned that Lockheed Martin has submitted one of each: an all-new, advanced, "sixth-generation" design and a derivative of its F-35C.

"If I had to bet," said an industry source, "[I'd say] what the Navy would do is an F-35C-plus."

I'd love to see what they have in mind.

The author of the article draws a conclusion that the USN by buying "legacy" planes until the F/A-XX is available means the -35. That may as well mean buying superhornets for the next 12 years... I certainly don't think the -35 will be built in numbers as planned, so without a doubt the USN will get less than what has been planned.

My reaction as well. I think sewerrat actually drew a rather different conclusion than Freedberg was trying to get across.

Saw this video at the same site:

Test Pilots Speak On F-35 http://defense.aol.com/2012/07/10/dutch ... d=related3

Pilots, as usual, seem happy and impressed with jet.

I only wish, out of curiosity, they'd let the pilots speak publicy about the aircrafts speed, maneuverability, and altitude. It would (or could), if they did so, put a lot to rest of the anti-35 crowds arguments about it being an underperforming jet compared to -16s and -15s.

I think regardless of how informed and important many here think their opinions maybe, the people actually making the decisions probably couldn't care less. I'd bet most, if not all don't even read any of this.

Hell, some of us have already been saying it.

I don't know, but I'm gonna guess that the folks spending the money (HASC & SASC) are getting their feedback from the folks in the test program and the GAO (mainly for cost) and from folks like Venlet. One of Venlet's opinions is worth a million of ours. Laughing
