Interesting!
Is cover material so flexible to bend? as well as the RAM coating?

No bending involved. The hinge is just designed so well that there is no perceivable gap.

No I think they applied flexible material to cover the gap

how the HELL do they do that without the paint cracking and falling off?

Also the photo answers one of the questions around which doors need more frequent replacement. The nozzle door is a different colour to the rest of the aircraft.

Probably without paint at all.

No bendy. I thought it did too but it doesn't. Go chase down the video of the X-47B that NG released a year or two ago of it under construction. There's a point in which it's moving its control surfaces and you can see exactly how it's handled.

I don't know if that's a patch... if it's orange, it's likely instrumentation; I'd guess thermocouples and maybe a pressure tap.

It can't bend. I'm with SpudmanWP in that the tolerances between components are so small that you can't see any gaps between them from a distance. This is good when making a Low Observable vehicle.

Are the weights of the external pylons included in the aircraft weight or must they be added when talking about vertical landings with stores? The requirement to land with two 1000 lb JDAM and two AIM-120's internally doesn't mention from what I have seen whether or not it includes the pylons.

VLBB is listed in Total Weight, not specific stores.

If a F-35B wants to do a VLBB with internal stores and external pylons then he can do so with less fuel if the fuel reserve is above the safety margin.

IIRC, the VLBB is ~5000lb (fuel and stores).
