While at Tucson, saw lotsa coupes and family models do low-approaches (execute a go-around at ~ 10' - 15' AGL) rather than actual T&G's. How are LA's scored in relation to landing currency? Does each pass count as a "landing" even tho ya don't touch? |

When I instructed at TUS, all T&G's were done at Tucson IAP with the exception of an occasional approach at DM, trying not to run over A-10's.
When I went thru the 16 course in the 80's, T&G's were done at Fort Huachuca, with a planned full-stop only back at TUS (but at least they still did allow overheads at TUS).
I'm not sure why they would be doing low approaches at TUS unless a particular instrument approach wasn't available at the Army field. You got me, I thought Fort Huachuca had everything needed for training.
Low approaches don't count as landings for currency. Conversely a bounce does not count as 2 landings.
I also think DOD provided a lot of money to 'P' fields for upkeep. Maybe the Guard struck an agreement with the city and airport authority to minimize wear & tear on the runway surface for 'less rent'.
Any more news on the F-22? |

Did they release the actual report? The USAF statements suggest they haven't and that a FOIA request is pending. |

They released a statement regarding the mishap. I didn't see the actual AIB report, and the Air Force Times reports a FOIA request is pending. |

| Anyone know if the pilot was a new b-courser or if he was an IP? I figure a mistake like this would come from a dude with only a few hours in the jet, but you never know. This seemingly minor mistake cost the AF $35 million and most likely the pilot's wings, what with the modern "one mistake air force" of today and all. |

He was back in the cockpit not long after the mishap, although I don't know what his current status is. |
