RFD Beaufort Inc supplies innovative F-35 pilots program 25 Feb 2010
http://www.survitecgroup.com/latest-new ... ts-program
"RFD Beaufort Inc is pleased to announce we will supply representatives from the Navy, Air Force, Marines and student pilots from allied countries with pilot flight equipment as part of the new innovative F-35 flight training program at Eglin Air Force Base in the US. Joint Strike Fighter instructor pilots were fitted for their flight equipment specifically tailored for the new F-35 Lightning II Fighter in the Nomad Hall during a press conference held at the base.
Manufactured at RFD Beaufort Inc in Ohio, the flight equipment has been uniquely designed based on F-35 specifications and trial runs. This equipment includes tailored arm restraint lines for safer ejections and two different anti-g suits, including a 5 bladder and a full coverage anti-g suit that would prevent pilots from suffering g-induced loss of consciousness.
The program is expecting their first flight simulators to be online by the summer and is expecting the arrival of the first F-35 later this year [2010]."
A VIDEO is on the same web page showing some aspects of the F-35 Flight Gear.

F-35 Pilots 'Measure' Up, Move Closer To Training
New Gear Includes Everything From G-Suits And Helmets To Socks And Underwear
http://69.63.138.17/Subscribe.cfm?do=ma ... f6ba54c221
"...A normal F-35 pilot will wear flame retardant underwear, socks, a cooling garment, flight suit, anti-exposure suit trimmed to the individual pilot and waistcoats with pouches of drinking water, according to a RFD Beaufort representative. The complete gear with weapons will be about 30 pounds...." |

PILOTS TO GET NEXT-GEN FLIGHT SUITS Northwest Florida Daily News 05 April 2010
http://www.northalbanypost1610.org/site ... 010-04.pdf (63Kb)
"...RFD Beaufort took a flight suit already in production and made improvements based on F-35 specifications and trial runs.
Those improvements included tailoring the sleeves for safer ejections during an emergency and creating two different g-force protection suits that would keep pilots from blacking out in an emergency.
A pilot who tested the g-protection suits during flight demonstrations showed a notable improvement to current suits.
"When in the Legacy suit (worn flying F-16's), he was fatigued after one display," Robertson said.
The pilot then changed into the new protective gear. "After three displays, he was fresh as a daisy," Robertson said.
Socks are sewn into thermal suits and create a barrier against water in case a pilot ejects and lands in water. Other garments whisk away summer heat and have coolants pumping in them.
Pilots will wear flame retardant undergarments that Roberts said would have saved thousands of lives had they been used years ago.
"This equipment will protect and give the pilots a chance to get out," Roberts said. "It integrates with the ejection seat and helmet."
Fitting and issuing the gear is a two-day process that includes testing the gear in a cockpit to ensure pilots can function safely and comfortably...." |

AIRCREW LIFE SUPPORT AIRCREW FLIGHT EQUIPMENT NEWSLETTER May 2011
http://www.usafals.net/NEWSLETTERS/2011 ... letter.pdf (0.6Mb)
" From The Field
RFD Beaufort Pilot Fit Facility (PFF) Joint Strike Fighter (F-35), Eglin AFB FL (Randy Epperly, RFD Beaufort)
The fit of modern pilot flight equipment (PFE) is key to performance. The AGILE system of layered clothing has been developed to do this. RFD Beaufort uses numerous anthropometric measurements to ensure the warfighter gains maximum comfort and highest level of protection. Completing this task at the PFF is a two day process.
Day One: Anthropometrics are taken along with predicted fitting validations of all equipment schedules and configurations.
Day Two: Integration of both above and below the neck PFE is completed to include issuing of the PFE. To accomplish this important task, dressing into each schedule/configuration is required, beginning with Winter Sea CB to Summer Land configurations. Measuring/marking of the Oxygen Gas Breathing and Anti G-Suit hoses as well as the fitting of the Arm Restraint Extension lines.
All schedules/configurations will be tested in the F-35 Ejection Seat here in the PFF. We then issue your PFE and your training begins."
