I wonder how likely they'll be in "good condition" as reported in the article? I have my doubts.

Agreed. Probably wooden crates, buried 70 years in tropical, moist soil, lots of wood-eating bugs, rot, etc.

Although these aren't buried in mud, they seemed to be buried on the web. While watching Ken Burns' doc "The War" on Netflix and thought I caught a glimpse of a crashed Spitfire with USAAF markings. Did some digging and found some examples:

Not sure if these units were associated with the Eagle squadrons from earlier in the War. I knew the RAF did photo recon with Spits but had no idea the USAAF did too. Or used 'em for any other role for that matter. Cool

I remember my dad (God rest his soul) reading to me about the Eagle squadrons and their Spitfires (I was 7 or 8 years old at the time). If memory serves, those guys were really pissed when they got switched to the Jug.
