The problem was not the stealth coatings of the F-22 vs the F-35, but the avionics of the F-22 that kept it from export. The F-35 was desighend from the ground up with LOTS of anti-tamper tech built in. This was to allow export to happen.
The F-22 has nowhere near the level of anti-tamper that the F-35 does. |

What's the big deal with someone tampering with equipment they own? http://www.comedycentral.com/video-clip ... ate-bender
I wonder how much money the government is wasting on copy-protection for LM? It's not like it will take more than a few months for customers to jailbreak their copies anyways. |

In regards to EVERYTHING.
The F-22 was built with NO planning for export. |

You can't be serious. This isn't a Bono CD we're talking about. |

Marketing.
How are you going to sell thousands of F-35s to foreign suckers...I mean customers if the F-22 is available? Answer: you're not!
So, the F-22 was banned from foreign sale. Make no mistake, if the US wanted to sell the F-22 to their allies they could.
It's a pity really because that fact is pretty much what restricted the production run to less than 200 aircraft and put enormous pressure on a lot of the planned block upgrades. Selling a couple of hundred to close allies like Australia, the UK and Japan would have doubled the production run, brought the purchase price down significantly and ensured that the block upgrades remained viable. |

Had you watched the video clip in my post, you'd get that I was partly joking. So no, I wasn't completely serious. |

Keeping drinking that kool aid brother...
I'm sure the UK would have forgone it's £30b investment in the Eurofighter Typhoon just because the F-22A had been made available...

The F-22 was NEVER banned from foreign military sales. In its production configuration, it did not meet FMS requirements. A law was passed early on that simply said that the funds being allocated for F-22 procurement, could not be used to develop a FMS version. That's all. A bill could have been introduced to allocate funds to develop a FMS version, however, it simply wasn't. |

Ask them if they want ground attack, STOVL, carrier compatibility, and/or lower maintenance costs.
On the original question, one factor to consider is that the F-22 is supposed to be more stealthy. |
