| If Kadena can survive the onslaught it would be the ideal base for counter air operations. Perfect distance from Taiwan and Shanghai to send a reminder to the Chinese in a single operational radius. And, with plenty of 'safe' flank air tanker infl and exfl routes can be quickly established in order to continually park said reminder over a particular place and continuously influence the war as we see fit, even with a handful of assets. Of course, that depends on the big IF with which this entire statement started. |

12 September 2012:
Two F-22A.
"AK".
USAF, based at Alaska, USA.
14:15, emergency landed at MCAS Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
After landing, escorted by rescue vehicles, to hangars.
At same time, six F-22 are confirmed at Kadena AB, Okinawa Prefecture.

| The one engine has it's nozzle's flared because the engine is actually shut off. I'm not sure if the pilot landed with only one engine running, or shut down immediately after landing, though. Anyone happen to catch the tail #? I can't seem to make it out. |

Seriously, MCAS Iwakuni may have its share of regular spotters.

| 06-113 carried 3rd OG at red flag in 2010 and when it was seen in 2011. The Raptor that carried 3rd WG changed jets earlier this year but I haven't heard that 06-113 isn't still the 3rd OG jet. |

F-22s land at Iwakuni base over defect fears
2012/09/14
The fighter jets made the landings at about 2 p.m. Wednesday due to a possible hydraulic system defect involving one of them, according to the U.S. Air Force.
The fighter jets were scheduled to fly to Guam via Okinawa Prefecture, after arriving from the Elmendorf-Richardson base in Alaska.
F-22 fighters flying from the United States usually use Kadena Air Base in Okinawa as a stopover point.
Landing at Iwakuni is unusual. |

| Ten other F-22s from Elmo arrived at Kadena last Wednesday. Based on spotters at the base, most of the jets were from the 90th FS including the new 90th flagship 10-190. The new 3rd wing flagship 10-193 was also there. I'm sure they headed to Guam a day or two after they arrived considering that Kadena was affected by a Typhoon over the weekend. |

The serial number is at the bases of the tail fins, and in that Japanese blogger's photos, "AK 3rd OG" is "AF 06113". |
