Juliet Buck runs the F-35 haters blog:

http://f35insouthburlington.blogspot.com/

And has interviewed & reported articles from many other F-35 haters like Wheeler.

Take anything she says with a fistful of salt Wink

Yeap SpudmanWP! Notice the article photo ONLY showed someone who OPPOSED the F-35. Not the other side of the coin a PROPONENT of the JSF. It's interesting that on Sunday UTA of the VT Air Guard. The VTANG F-16s can't take off till after Noon. Notice Senior Senator Patrick Leahy on the Armed Services Committee in Washington,DC would be the political HORSEPOWER for the JSF. He wasn't mentioned in the article. He wouldn't want to upset the LIBERALS.

Good grief, that blog is terrible. Shocked Shocked

"A virtual flying piano..."
What the hell is that even supposed to mean?? They're saying that the F-35 is less agile than the F-16 (not true), and inferior to the A-10 in low-altitude CAS (arguably true).

The gist of the thing seems to be that a minor increase in noise will have a major impact on property values. People are claiming that the jet cannot compete with its Russian and Chinese counterparts, which I find laughable. T-50 vs. F-35A is the ultimate baby-seal club-fest. We don't even know if the Flatfrog has radar fitted currently.

No, I'm not a fan of the program. Yes, I believe that Beagles, SHornets, Raptors, and the F/A-XX should be what we rely on, but it's undeniable that it will be a good replacement for the Viper. Noise complaints are simple whining. If any HOA thinks that noise complaints will have much of an impact on air sovereignty missions, I suspect them to be very, very wrong.

Personally I think the Government is way too nice about all this. They should just tell people, 'This is where these are being based'...why ask what anyone thinks about it? This woman cannot think clearly...they are spouting off about learning problems in the children, broken windows, cracks in the walls...all due to the occasional jet noise? Give me a break.

How about we don't base any '35s there AND we close down that airport...after all, its noise is sooo damaging right? Cut off any funding for the town from the Government as it concerns military or commercial aviation activities.

Hey...Is this woman a smoker? If she is, I want her to stop right now...after all, second hand smoke literally kills. That's far worse than jet noise and technically she (if she smokes) or her smoker friends are murdering people in a round about sort of way. Car's too...all that pollution has to be stunting growth in the youth there...park ALL the vehicles, don't use them.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

......AND then I woke up doc. It was all a dream...but I guess now that I think about it, some good ole sounds of freedom in the neighborhood doesn't seem all that bad anymore.

Eh, I wish her well. It just increases the odds we'll base them at Luke AFB where they should be. Cool

I personally believe that my own 125FW is slated to receive F-35s, and we've got a NORAD alert mission, so I personally think the hippies/concerned parents will be overruled Cool Cool

I can't wait to see those birds on training deployments to my home AFB Wink Wink

During a time when the gulf coast is fighting to keep an ANG mission others states are complaining how it will take a toll on the commuity to put a new one in thier home state. I guess they just dont realize that the F-16 as a war fighter wont be around for ever. VTANG already lost the alert mission they supported at Langley.

They'll listen to the crazies at the hearing doing their whining, and when all is said and done they'll base the F-35 there no matter what. It's in Sen Leahy's district, and the decision to base them there is 100% political and not based on any real-world considerations at all. Sorry to anyone from the VTANG, but there are several other Air Guard locations much more suited to base the F-35 than Burlington.

Battle Creek comes to mind...a huge runway, no commercial traffic (airline) and almost no encroachment issue at all. Plenty of room for support facilities. An absolute shame the Air Force doesn't use it.

With respects to Sen Leahy, if I'm not mistaken the active USAF will be receiving operational F-35s before the ANG does? But regardless of any magical political powers he might posses, the fact remains that the VT ANG base currently operates block 30 F-16, which will likely retire before an operational ANG fighter interceptor F-35A squadron can be delivered and operated from South Burlington.

Perhaps his tactic therefore could be to try and replace the block 30 ASAP with pulled block 50/52 from somewhere else and then perhaps he can stall long enough to help secure a future ANG F-35 interceptor base out of VT?

Please... the horse is dead, leave it alone Wink

Nobody is going to pull Blk50 F-16 out of storage just to fill a ill-perceived gap. It would be cheaper to keep Blk30s flying than to do that.

As to when F-35s will get to ANG units, considering ANG units were some of the first to get the F-22, the same would likely apply to the F-35.
