| The XFV-12 was a mess. It couldn't make enough thrust for vertical lift. F-35 haters do not know what they are talking about when they say the F-35B is crap. |

I can think of a number of reasons for push-back against the F-35:
- Various people that want their country's aircraft to be seen as better
- Gamers that inevitably prefer combat vehicles with maximized individual capabilities regardless of cost
- Anti-military types that will look for any excuse to shoot down a program
- certain special interests that are invested in alternatives to F-35
- individuals who are personally offended by multi-role aircraft and/or design compromises |

| No it did not. The Yak-141 had two additional jet engines (RKBM RD-41 turbofans) in place of where the F-35B's shaft-driven lift fan is located. |

Some more:
- People who view military equipment primarily not as a way of defending one's country, but as a way to provide economic stimulus to one's country.
- People who are "target fixated" on one aspect of the F-35 and do not look at the system as a whole.
- People who fail to realize that the high Total Lifetime cost ($1.5 trillion) is in THEN YEAR dollars covering around 55 years of use.
- People who fail to realize that the F-35 replaces several 4th gen aircraft types (F-16, A-10, AV-8B, A-6, F-18C/D/E/F, F-15, F-4, F-111, AMX, Tornado, etc) and augments the F-22. |

| I don't know, Spud. Those sound more like means than motivations. |
