| I doubt it. Brazil was initially reluctant to buy the Rafale because they thought it might be a dead platform but now that India decided to buy it, it has been revived. There's a good chance the UAE is going to buy it as well now. Dassault is much more generous about transfer of technology (they have to be) and the Rafale is a new platform. On the other hand, the Super Hornet is acknowledged as being a stop gap measure before the F-35 can be deployed. |

| Does the possibility of a number of countries unloading F/A-18's for cheep once they get their F-35's figure into the calculation? |

It's not just the DoD officials you have to convince to take away a contract from their future employers.
It's the politicians in the House and Senate to vote against their political paymasters. |

Not really.
A lot of DoD officials both civilian and uniformed find employment with defense companies after they leave the government or the military.
And every defense company participates in the political funding game. |

There are some very good air forces out there that get by just fine without supersonic trainers.
I'm no Air Force pilot, but what educational value can be gained from training with a subsonic fighter if you pilot an F-22, for instance? How common are subsonic engagements versus supersonic engagements in the realm of fifth gen fighters? Fourth gen, like the F-18? |

| I'd imagine since most missions involve dropping bombs rather than air-air , the vast majority of engagements are subsonic. |
