Interesting that its a 9 month deployment to Alaska pulling Alert for Noble Eagle. Thats beginning to be longer than Navy Carrier Deployments.

Misawa families welcome 13th Fighter Squadron pilots some photos of returning 13 FS F-16s back in October.

does anyone else find it funny/sad that we ripped 200+ airmen away from thier families for 9 months to deploy to eilsen for ONE when our premier A-A fighter is stationed at anchorage? WTF? way to go airforce. People first right?

I agree deadseal. I'd guess it has something to do with airframe avaliability. Do the two squadrons of Raptors at Elmendorf support ONE in place? If so, having jets at Fairbanks would commit so many aircraft to ONE it would adversely affect training. It's another negative result of not building enough Raptors. Six squadrons of combat coded jets, especially one with significant maintenace/reliablity issues, can't cover all the missions a greater number of F-15s did 10 years ago.

No, look at the original post by Siesta. It says the 13th and 14th Fighter Squadrons were there for nine months. It does not say number of jets or personnel. It is interesting we pull back active duty jets and people from what amounts to a forward deployed unit to support ONE. Is there precident?

Seems conflicting information as the one article states being gone for 9 months but the other article indicated returning in October. To throw you off the Misawa website shows the 13th in Singapore for a DACT recently.

Interesting enough the 44th Fighter Squadron flying F-15Cs out of Kadena was deployed to Southwest Asia for the same time as the Misawa deployment. Air National Guard F-16s have also taken temporary alert assignments at Hickam in place of the F-22 squadron there.

Hickam lost their Eagles prior to the Raptors standing up. I'm not sure they're combat ready even now. Lingering effects of the four month grounding no doubt. They are deployng jets to Tyndall this summer for WSEP. But, back on subject (kinda), it does seem somewhat strange to deploy fighters out of Pacific Rim bases and backfill with other units considering the state of affairs in Korea. I guess it's just another example of what happens when USAF must support multiple contingencies with limited assets.

Heres another deployment shuffle... Hill and Shaw each sent a squadron to Kunsan late last year and earlier this year. Hills squadron returning last month.

Lakenheath had sent F-15Es to Kunsan last year so yes it makes for an interesting deployment cycle.

There should be a thread on Kunsan deployments!

You just described every clown currently wearing stars on their collar. I thought we had an AFRes and ANG for a reason. 9 months in AK is a lot better than 9 months in a third world sh!thole like A$$crackistan.

I had found it unusual that Misawa F-16s had a "9" month deployment. Looking at PACAFs website and Misawa's theres no mention of the recent return from ONE it was exclusive on PACAFs however on Misawas it had the return of F-16s from Commando Sling two days after the Noble Eagle return on PACAFs website..

F-16s from Misawa spent three weeks at Singapore this past month and then spent two weeks in Guam for Cope North in February. Prior to that they had an ORI in December. Thats pretty busy for a unit that has been deployed in Alaska for nine months.

That being said and putting some knowledge - its probably that the Noble Eagle alert was a small contingent rather than an entire fighter squadron.

Chalk it up to public affairs!

That makes sense indeed, Sieste.

The Misawa-web page shows six aircraft returning and this rather small amount would be sufficient for an alert deployment with four primary with two spares.

Cheers,

Henrik.
