I thought it was "gear check." As in "nope, it's not down yet; we're gonna need you to fly by the tower again please."

Interesting visual distortions.

Nice vapour trails. Will be good when they put this into airshows. Sharpened leading edges and high AOA should make for some good vapor displays.

If LM really want to swing some opinion when they start showing videos of the F-35 turning, they should make the vid on cool, humid day.

They should make the video with the F-35C 'burning and churning' low beside a CVN at sea. Humid is good.

I still haven't seen an F35 in anything but straight and level videos. Can this thing turn?

Um... spend any time on Youtube (and this is just from this month).

Newsflash, the F-35 has already pulled 9.9Gs which they certainly did not do flying "straight and level" Wink

Before you say "That's new stuff that it just started doing!", here is some stuff (set to music) that AA-1 did over 4.5 YEARS ago.

My first thought is how cool it would be to see the -35 to fly in a tree top level, at night, at high speed, dropping 2x 2k pounders on a SAM/AAA site. What a devastating platform ths aircraft will be..... Stealth, low altitude, high speed is going to make the -35 a tough nut to crack. Maybe I'm just being being overly patriotic, but the -35 is going to be a game changer, even without a mach 2 cruise speed. Does anyone else doubt that the -35 will cruise above mach 1, cosidering how much military thrust is available?

Nope, it flies in a straight line everywhere it goes. Rolling Eyes

I doubt low altitude penetration is seriously being considered as a main tactic for the F-35 considering the LO features it has.

Low altitude flight brings the issues of high density air potentially giving the F-35 quite an intense gust response from atmospheric turbulence.

With the advent of cheap and effective LO features I'd imagine it would be a lot easier on airframe life to just stay up in the air where it is comfortable for the pilot and drop bombs on SAM and AAA sites from altitudes where AAA can't reach, radar can't track and optical sighting for SAMs would be out of the question due to it being nighttime.

In any case it is a mystery to me why LM's marketing department hasn't been more forthcoming with video that shows off the F-35 some more in maneuvering flight. Those people are really doing a lousy job I have to say. Why should LM care? Well, the aircraft has for the longest time been challenged by critics because of it's perceived lack off agility. I think that Handyman is just saying what a lot of people think about this, and LM's slow response are just leaving the stage open for Sweetman & Copp's show routine.

Maybe LM marketing are just waiting for Top Gun 2 to do the job for them? Cool

That might do it.
Comments on F-35 youtube videos seem to indicate that the F-35B has been getting a lot of bad press from the way it was incorporated into the Battle Field 3 video game.

Oh yeah, don't get me started on the number of people that yell various things over the microphones about how the F-35 is garbage and that the US should buy the JAS-39 Gripen or the Eurofighter Typhoon. Oh jeez the stupidity of some people...
