Remember too that one of the main driver behind the semi-annual Northern Edge exercises has been test our fighters and tactics in an EM rich environment. btw, The APG-81 did quite well when it last visited NE aboard a BAC1-11.

Hogwash!! Laughing

"Sec. Carter is a highly intelligent and well briefed DOD professional. The statement “It’s difficult to separate electronic warfare from cyberattack. EW is an area that is undervalued and understressed. In some places we’ve fallen behind.”, is classic of those not attuned to EW. No one "Ever" gets ahead in EW, to be able to stay ahead. Cyberattack is only one of many subsets of EW and is best represented with the analogy of " millions of 12yr. olds with laptops attacking any security system keeping them out ". AESA is only a new high bandwidth technology that continues the same game ("better, with higher bandwidth)and now as our latest sword of technology, "it cuts both ways". All of our existing cyber techniques work on the AESA system and it will require the BAE EW systems in the JSF to implement each as required."

Aesa is being implemented on many platforms beyond a/c (ex. Aegis) and has the same EW exposures in each of those applications. The EW experts are well aware of these threats and are countering them as best as one can respond to millions of 12yr. olds with laptops. Budgeting for EW is what Carter was beating the drum for and rightfully so. When an EW attack shuts down Facebook or Twitter then the Pols "will suffer their indignation" for the media and provide funds to perhaps prevent attack on our public infrastructures, as well. PS, those same tools will be added to the "bag of tricks" for all EW defense systems (ex. Aesa). Wink
