Really? The money being spent is to meet the requirements at & after IOC, not to give us what we have today.
Extra $ and headaches, you bet... Do they all still want it despite these problems, you bet.
Try being an adult. |

I have to throw in my 2 cents here
The JSF-35 MIGHT become a incredible plane. The technology that they are trying to use is very interresting with great potential. However 1 thing has to be said that what ever the end price, and lets admit it, will not be cheap.
The JSF-35 is a classic case of the male and military ego, my stick is bigger and better than yours and I must have that at any cost.
Kelly Johnson was right when he said once the the way military aircraft are going that soon it will be that only the richest countries can afford to build 1.
I think we are approching that point very, very fast. And this when ordinary citizings in Greece are commiting suicide because the cannot see the light in the end of the tunnel because of that country fonancial distaster. Or returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan cannot find a job and have to sleep on a park bench. |

Define "cheap"?
In the end it will be cheaper to prosecute a mission with F-35s than 4th gen assets in a majority of the situations and especially when there is any A2A or SAM threats. |

Are you my high school English teacher?? Because you sure sound like her
On a more serious note, I feel that the program is the only game in town, or at least the only one that gives its particular mix in capabilities. This was probably a serious misstep on the part of all involved, and competitors won't begin to materialize for a long time. The best alternatives, IMO, are F-15SE-class LO heavy strike fighters. Two men and two engines still have a lot going for them; I don't really fully trust all the whiz-bang gizmos. |
