Spud
Noticed, the more SDB’s, a higher price per SDB1.
Currency probably, but suppose mainly because of a different equipment package and etc?
Per SDB1 (Including equipment etc):
o Italy ($34 million / 500): $68,000
o Netherlands ($44 million / 603) : $72,968
o Israel ($77 million / 1000): $77,000
Average price exported SDB’s: $73,704 per SDB1
Total SDB’s (till so far):
o US: 12,500
o Exported: 2103
Total: 14,603 |

LM information, but possibly old info?
F-35B STOVL Variant, F-35 Lightning II
Quote: The F-35B standard weapons load is two AIM-120C air-to-air missiles and two 1,000-pound GBU-32 JDAM guided bombs. Optional internal loads include six GBU-38 small-diameter bombs, as well as a wide variety of air-to-ground missiles, dispensers and guided weapons.

| The limit on SDB carriage for the F-35B is probably based on weight. 3 SDB's and the BRU probably total 1000 lbs. |

Not absolutely sure about the number of SDBs that can fit on a BRU-61 when in a F-35B, only that a BRU-61 fits within a F-35B.
The internal A2G limit for the F-35B A2G stations is 1500lb, not 1k.

Will it be possible to carry 2 BRU-61A’s or JMM BRU’s (BRU-61A/A) under each wing?
In that case a F35A/C could have a bomb load of 24, in stead of 16 SDB’s
Or a F35B, 22 SDB’s (in case 6 SDB’s in internal bays)
Either suppose, one carriage under each wing, operational will be enough.
Even internal capacity will probably be enough, most of the times.
Don't know or this will be possible, but a configuration of 3 Amraams and 4 SDB's in each bay, seems to me, as well a multi role option (with for instance two sidewinders under the wings)
(Haven't seen this before, but during Libya allied F16's flew with 3 Amraams and one sidewinder)
F35A/C
Bomb load (16):
o Internal: 2000 lbs
o Externa: 2000 lbs
Total: 4000 lbs
Bomb load (24):
o Internal: 2000 lbs
o Externa: 4000 lbs
Total: 6000 lbs
F35B
Bomb load (14):
o Internal: 1500 lbs
o Externa: 2000 lbs
Total: 3500 lbs
Bomb load (22):
o Internal: 1500 lbs
o Externa: 4000 lbs
Total: 5500 lbs
* Without weight of the BRU-61A or JMM BRU carriages |

The weight limits publicly stated should allow the BRU-61 to be carried on any of the external A2G stations. This would allow for a max (if no MER used) carriage of 24 on any of the F-35s (A/B/C).
The weight of a fully loaded BRU-61 is 1,460 lb.

F-35B's internal bays are slightly shorter than those in A & C, which cuts off one corner of the volume that a set of SDB-1s would take up, so it can carry 3 per bay, whereas A & C can carry 4. SDB-2 is slightly differently shaped and/or a slightly different size to avoid this issue, so any version of F-35 can carry 4 of those. The same issue also affects JSOW. None of these are above the weight limit.
* * *
Once all orders for SDBs (either version) are filled and production is stopped, what would it take to restart? The numbers I'm seeing here look smaller than I expected, which makes me ponder how fast they could run out in an ongoing conflict. |

| The US has 12k SDB1s and are just starting to order SDB2s. Not sure about how long to restart. |
