The last Raptor 4195, had her first flight today. Here's a short article here. What's interesting is that LM's Bret Luedke discussed the test flight process and stated that the jet supercruises at M 1.8 and has a top speed of around M 2.2 The supercruise speed has already been published elsewhere but this is the first indication of the jet's top speed.

The final Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor no. 10-4195 took to the skies for its first test flight on March 14th, 2012 with company test pilot Bret Luedke at the controls.

Oh no...top speed was discussed MANY years ago and was limited due to heat...mainly to the canopy. I'll see if I can dig it up, but its definitely been put out before.

It was indeed a shame when the Bush Administration decided to can the program. The Obama Administration was never gonna reverse that call, and so went production of the world's best Air Superiority Fighter.

There's always hope for 6th Gen!

I try to insulate myself from the politics lest I get into one of my occasional rages, but amen to the 6th-gen, HV!! Boeing is already looking into that one. My guess is basically a VLO F-14 meets the F-35... Cool Cool

Apparently 4190 was delivered to Alaska a couple of weeks ago with two others and is the new '90FS' flagship.

Does anyone know if 4189 went to Alaska or Langley please?

Regards

According to Paul Metz it'll do better than 1600 mph. How long (heat) is anybody's guess. The F-15 canopy limits it to Mach 2.5 and the F-111 had time limitations at high Mach because of it's aluminum construction.

I agree there should be AT LEAST 60 more.

Regarding politicians, I don't hate all of them. There are actually some good ones out there. However, I don't like a lot of them and I hate some of the things they do to include their decision making abilities.

60 more would be a good start, though a total fleet of 381, sounds like a nice number. Cool

Can we find a Presidential candidate who shares the same vision for the USAF?? The F-35 is getting nowhere fast, and we need a hedge in case it is cancelled.

"nowhere fast", really? You need to spend some time reading the news instead of opinion pieces.

btw, LM just announced (in sworn testimony) that the LER estimates for the F-35 have gone up from 3:1 to 6:1 due to better understanding of it's RCS and results from updated SIMs (computerized and piloted).
