Hello All,
A while back, I saw a photo of F-16A in Thunderbirds colors but with bombs on its wings. I'm not sure if it was here or just on the net cause I have not found those photos again. Anyway, I have never heard of them flying with bombs or any other weapons on their wings. In fact, I even looked through all my F-16 books about this but found nothing. So, can you guys here help me figure this out. Why would they need weapons on their wings, and if so, do they do that now with their newer jets? Can you someone point me to some photographs of these jets in this configuration? TIA.

You mean #81-0679. Explanation on why is in the history of this airframe.
USAF F-16A block 15 #81-0679 from the Thunderbirds is seen loaded with three Mk. 82 bombs in 1988 during an exercise to get the aircraft operational again within a 72-hour timeframe. USAF Thunderbird #81-0679 is seen from below in 1988 when it was reconfigured to carry ordnance in the so-called 'War Bird project' to check in which time-frame the T-birds could be operational again in their war config. |

I believe someone wrote a series of novels called Wingman about exactly that |

Just like the Sneak Pass during the show, the Diamond could fly parallel to the FLOT and while the enemy is ooooo-ing and ahhhh-ing and marveling at how tight the formation is, 5 and 6 come screamin' in from outta nowhere with CBUs and wipe 'em all out. |
