| AFAIK, in the first LANTIRN systems (2 pods) the Nav pod raster video could be displayed in both the WAR HUD and an MFD for NOE flying. Targeting pod video was heads-down (MFD) only. That may have changed with the newer single pod systems like Sharpshooter or Litening II. |

Yeah...F-15S, a modified version of the F-15E. Singapore needed something that they can modify on their own in the future, and with stuff they can customise...so it was a tough competition of how much technology they're willing to transfer....the EF-2000 is leading the competition now, F-15 is almost confirmed out.
Thanks linkF-16SimDude...that's nice info about the LANTIRN and WAR |

I'm afraid you're mistaken. F-15S Eagles were delivered for (RSAF) Royal Saudi Air Force. What you meant should be F-15T. |

duh, yeah - I always mess that up...
The WAR HUD can display NAV pod video, TGP video can be disaplayed in the MFDS regardless of HUD type. That's why you will see LANTIRN TGP (and LITENING) pods on jets with WAC HUDs but you won't see a LANTIRN NAV pod on a non-WAR HUD jet. |

why not? RSAF Block 52 carries the LANTIRN with the WAC HUD.
According to the Users section of the board, the RSAF LANTIRN is a "downrated" version. What means exactly I'm not sure but it could mean that the system will only display Nav pod video heads down and not in the HUD.
I believe the original intent of the WAR HUD displaying Nav pod video was for terrain avoidance during low-level night navigation to the target area. You'd want to keep your eyes forward to avoid becoming wallpaper on a mountain side. Nowadays (when it's installed) the Nav pod is used more for intial target acquisition from medium altitudes where terrain avoidance isn't an issue. But with today's newer imaging technologies that can fit into a single pod, the concept and need of a seperate Nav pod is becoming more and more outdated, IMO. |

Both the WAC and WAR HUD can display any raster image supplied to them, whether it is NAV Pod, Lantirn or TGP, its just a matter of what is routed to the HUD Electronics Unit/MMC/AMC (delete as applicable).
The WAC HUD has a 12.5 degree Radius FOV and is a Refractive display, the WAR HUD has a 15 degree radius FOV and is a diffractive display. |

Yes, I heard about it too. And T should stand for 'Temasek', if the F15 is chosen though. |

Thanks viper030687, I didn't know what the "T" represents before. It will be cool, if the 52+ was designated as F-16T.
cheers, |
