Could be a challenge coin made for the roll-out. I say "could be" because challenge coins are easy to reproduce and you didn't specify how you came by it. I'm assuming it's authentic for this discussion (it's a Small Tail jet on the obverse side). Challenge coins are usually made to commemorate a special event, group, mission, etc. Their biggest value (besides the sentimental angle) is they keep ya from having to buy an unintentional round at the bar as long as you have it on ya.
Anyway.... Here's a 2011 ebay listing for one..
Try Google-ing "YF-16 challenge coin". May get some info. Or maybe someone on here knows more about it. Also try www.challengecoinassociation.org. |

| Could also be more a commemorative coin than a challenge coin. I don't recall challenge coins being in use in the USAF in that time period. |
