is it possible to find out the best f-16 pilot, individually..... in say the last 20 years..
from when it was first introduced to now so around the 70s to 100s
maybe there are some nasa astranauts (alot of astranauts are decorated, experienced combat pilots)... maybe someone else..
any famous f-16 pilots you know, that could be considered the best to ever fly the falcon? |

| Well Capt Bob Wright downed three Serbian Jastrebs while his wingman, Capt Scott O'grady, flew top cover. And I know that an Israeli pilot scored a triple kill also in combat, with a possible unconfirmed fourth kill. Either of these two guys>... |

Just ask ANY fighter pilot of ANY jet who the best pilot is. I'd bet a shiny new penny they'll give ya the Gordo Cooper answer. |

| Hmmm...Gordo flew 4 types of fighters in his career with no combat experience. Certainly never flew an F-16. Certainly on the commercial side of the house, he could be considered king. |

| I don't think "best" should be defined by the number of AA kills. Skill can be measured in different contexts, whether it is in Air to ground doing Close Air support or even Air demo's. I guarantee you if you asked a room full of Viper Jocks who they thought the best pilot was. Most would probably point to their wingmen. |

You're missing the point....
You to any Viper driver: "Who's the best F-16 pilot?"
Any Viper driver: "You're lookin' at him!"
AKA..."The Gordo Cooper Answer"

I always left it open to the possibility (remote as it was) that I was only second best.

IMO, the best Viper pilot is the one who shares their knowledge with the ones who can only dream of flying such a magnificent jet! |

The "Gordo" response would probably come from most fighter pilots. They have to believe that they are the best and that they can do anything. It's not arrogance, it's the supreme confidence that you must have to go up against five bad guys and only be concerned about whether you will have enough gas to make it home when you are done...
Best Regards, |

GUMS!
Copy that GhettoBird...
Any Fighter Jock that has flown that many combat missions without getting his alpha shot down and that can bring a Viper safely and unscratched back to the barn with an LEF stuck full up, enough said.

There are numerous good ones out there and if the above accomplishments are the criteria, you have about 500 guys with similar records: Saved a jet, tons of time with tons of combat, generally good dude with that something special about them.
In the end, we all have our favorites that made us the best. But only each of us know who that is. |
