“If we allow the current trend to continue,” said Arnold L. Punaro, a consultant on a Pentagon advisory group, the Defense Business Board, who has pushed for changes in the military retirement system, “we’re going to turn the Department of Defense into a benefits company that occasionally kills a terrorist.”
So the answer is to take health care for people who ain't currently in uniform and turn it over to a European style universal health care system that gives better results and costs a fraction of the current American mixmash of systems.
The alternative is a slow, steady, shutdown of the Pentagon as it turns into a 21st Century General Motors that chokes on its own benefits system. |
