"The latest production F-35B (Navy Bureau Number 168059, called BF-08) was flown from NAS Fort Worth JRB on 29 November 2011. Lockheed Martin test pilot Bill Gigliotti was the pilot for aircraft's first flight."

I thought I'd ask. Do you know why they have Navy Bureau Numbers and not a marine corps number on B models? Is the navy getting B's too?

The Marines are part of the Navy, much to their chagrin.

Not so. They are part of the Department of the Navy, and celebrate the distinction every day.

Semantics....they are in fact part of the Navy as posted. Its not really a big deal, they clearly are a separate fighting force and have their own budget to accomplish their mission.

Utter nonsense. It is a big deal. Words have meaning and those words make an important distinction that is reflected in law.

Whatever - They are a military service organized under the Department of the Navy, and administered by the Secretary of the Navy. Certain administrative and technical services are provided to the Marine Corps by the Navy.

Unfortunately the weather in Fort Worth could keep BF-8 (and BF-7 for that matter) on the ground for a while. I know the reasons, but I hate the whole no flying in non-perfect weather until certified.

Also I have a Marine friend (served 28 years) who puts it this way, "The Marines Corp is the Men's Department of the Navy."
