| No I think my duelling/gun fighting annology is correct. He who fires first and hits his target, wins and lives another day. But there is a rub here! Because of the time delay between missile launch and missile hitting target it is possible for everyone to both win and to both loose in which case it turns into a war of attrition rather then one of technical supremecy. |

'alloycowboy' fair enough. Not being able to hear the audio I just wanted to add my tuppenceworth that some people have an odd idea about 'dogfighting' or aerial combat as somehow being 'honourable'. It is not. There is no joy in going into a so called 'merge' if it can be avoided by a successful long range BVR missile shot. Yep there is the complication you mention.
Always best to decide the outcome as quickly as possible - otherwise mistakes can be made - advantage lost and then.... AMF. (AdiosMutherTrucker) In my days the visual dogfight was most often outcome with only AIM-9B (then 'L' much later I'm told) with guns. Even though one might win a prolonged dogfight (with another A4G v A4G) one's butt was kicked for not finishing the job sooner. See above. |

@lb..... No one is dismissing ACM's classic rules of engagement, it's just that given the recent advent or new technologies we aren't sure how the classic rules of ACM are going to apply.
When I saw the SH grouped along with the F-22 and F-35, I just knew that this was a Boeing graphic. They conveniently left out the Typhoon, Rafale and Su-35 ; the SH falls comfortably with that group. |

| That's right. It's clearly Boeing just playing up their product to make the Indians buy it, as it says "India Media Tour" up at the top right. |
