Bad News For F-35 Critics: It’s Becoming A Normal Acquisition Program
Author:Daniel Goure, Ph.D., November 02, 2011
[...] The unrelenting tide of good news on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program must be like fingers on a chalk board for those who thought they could make a career out of criticizing the program. The STOVL variant, the F-35B, is about to emerge from the probationary period imposed on it by then-Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Not only has the F-35B program overcome a series of technical issues but it has been to sea, conducting dozens of takeoffs and landings from a large deck amphib. Remember the critics who warned that the exhausts from the STOVL JSF would melt deck plates? Big whoops there...
[...] Another sign that the F-35 is becoming a normal acquisition program is that the Pentagon is trying to stick the Lockheed Martin team with all the costs of concurrency. This is a bad idea, particularly when the size of the low-rate initial production lots is being reduced. But it also suggests that the defense department now has enough confidence in the program that it feels safe trying to squeeze the companies. This is what happens in a normal acquisition program."

| Good. It would be a shame if all the time and effort invested into developing the F-35B were to go to waste. If anyone still wants it, and can afford it, why should anyone be thrilled to have the Bee die at birth? |

| Unlike ELP, I don't dismiss all good news as "marketing" and accept all bad news as unadulterated truth; and while there is much good news on the F-35 of late, one still needs to remember that this IS the Lexington Institute. |

Pay to play institute.
Give them some money and they'll give you a report that supports whatever position you want them to support. |

| Same could be said of reporters. Give them some money, and all of the sudden "unnamed sources" support your story.... the drool continues. I may as well not even buy a car because some "reporter" is gonna tell me how lame it is. |

As opposed to organizations that prefer other aircraft, which aren't biased? |

| It's got to the point that I'd believe Baghdad Bob more than any organization Thompson's running or involved with. |

What a ridiculous statement 'Lightndattic'. If the Lexington Institute is that bad then why does LM 'pay' it?
Because they'll say anything you want them to provided you write it on a cheque for a few million $. It's well known theme here that Thomspon would stand in front of a smouldering wreck of a F-35A and spin it as a 100% improvement in landing distance.
I'd love to see if putting Thompson's and Wheeler's groups in the same room would yield a matter/antimatter type reaction. |

Yeah, the reporters who always find sources that speak on a "condition of anonymity" because they're not allowed to comment. The media is a joke. |
