I tried to post a similar question weeks ago but only got one answer; in terms of Basic Fighter Maneuvers (BFM), are naval aviators more proficient than their air force counterparts???

No, Navy pilots have to concentrate of fuel ladders (very minimal if any BFM while deployed at sea) and landing on the boat...so your question on proficiency is: AF pilots would in my opinion be more proficient.

It's also relevant in their flying regulations: BFM is a Non-Demanding sortie on the AF while the Navy considers BFM demanding...

Now we aren't saying who is better in this question just talking proficiency...

Why do you ask?

The 'B' in BFM stands for BASIC.

The requirement to be 'proficient' in BFM is achieved fairly early in a fighter pilot's training/career or they don't have a fighter career, regardless of service branch. I don't know about today, but previously there were minimal requirements for BFM currency as such, because BFM is incorporated naturally in the more important real world air-to-air scenario training.

If the USAF spends more time on "Non-Demanding" strictly BFM training for proficiency purposes these days, they're probably wasting time. BFM was generally a "RE-currency" event regardless of dedicated A2A or multi-role. Things may have changed.

If you're just talking about pure "rat-racing", I 'spect the Guard is still the most 'proficient' at that.

Very Happy

Ok, listen in my opinion you guys complicate yourselves; all I’m asking is which branch of our forces spend more time in fighter maneuvers training whether is basic, intermediate , or expert level… Very Happy

Simple answer is Air Force; because they have the F-15C untis that concentrate on A2A only...I'd also say the F-15C units are the experts in that arena. Razz
