Not to mention the increase in workload the Viper Drivers face with the fact that the CJ only has one crew member dealing with the SAMs. At least with a Phantom the RIO can deal with jamming and launching HARMs against the SAMs so the pilot can focus on not getting both of them killed.

In defense of the F-16 though it does have good energy characteristics to efficiently pull hard maneuvers when confronted with a SAM and it does have much more advanced avionics that automatically respond to threats like the ALQ-165.

Of course, when (if) F-35 gets NJG, there won't be any workload issues...

Sorry, had to go there Smile

I could see an NGJ-Lite coming out that can be put on every F-35 in the package. It could be put on the centerline mount and would act (but be more powerful than) a traditional internal jammer.

I seriously hope you're not considering hanging yourself from an F-35. Laughing Shocked

On the serious side I can see a jamming pod like that too. It could have an internal RAT and would be automatic while using an active phased array to generate the techniques to protect the airframe. It would of course look like the gun pod considered for the F-35B and C to keep the radar signature small.
