Hahaha... cheers.
I can only say; all the more power to them. Congrats to the Maj. Brian Hartt, U.S. Air Force RMP program manager being quoted in the release and to Raytheon and to USAF for making the assessment and pulling the trigger.
Personally, I'd flat out favor retiring the entire 170 +/- F-15C/D fleet over the following 8 yrs (skip the well-intentioned golden Eagle) and just replace them with even something around 70-80 new build F-15E+ as part of a stop gap strat. Equipped with the APG-82 set and DEWS, along with the array of available OTS systems, it would be part of a currently available and capable Plan B stop gap.. O&S budgets would be probably cut by two-thirds by operating such a reduced fleet size, yet doubling the operational capability. And who knows what growth potential is around the corner as a Plan C, if needed. |

Isn't the plan to gut these birds, rebuild them and put something like the APG-82 inside them anyways? |

| I believe the plan was to indeed gut those F-15C/Ds and then give them the APG-63v3 AESA radar to allow them to remain viable and make up for the shortage of F-22s in the USAF fleet. |

APG-63V3 is a nice radar, but I'm hoping they get a lot more than that. A complete redesign of the cockpit would be nice in addition to advanced avionics from the F-22 and F-35. Are any of the F-15C/Ds flying with -229 engines in them? If not, I'd say throw a pair in. |

| They're not, so I guess we should throw them in too. |
