You will find out what the F-35 is not capable of doing when the USAF goes to Congress to ask for money to build the F-35's replacement. For now the fans and 'haters', one can only speculate about the issue!

In a way you are right as it will be at least 2019/20 before an F-35 can do that... due to the fact that Belgium will be looking for a F-16 replacement in that timeframe.

And yes, they are looking at the F-35 to replace their F-16s.

In Geogen's defense he did place the thread originally in the "F-16 vs XYZ" thread and it was then moved here since "F-35" was used in the title and it had nothing to do with any kind of "F-16 vs" discussion.

So... what exactly was done here that the F-35 can't do? Get a crazy paint job because of LO restrictions? Meh, I'm ok with that.

What - is it a slow news day?
Really this is worthy of discussion?

Given the f-35 has a 50+ deg departure aoa vs 35 on the f-16, it surely wasn't the flight display he was referring to

Wowz, tough crew here today... Will you guys ever lighten up and chill out for once? Nope. ;)

... Anyway, this innocent enough airshow vid was posted awhile ago in the F-16 vs X,Y,Z thread, perhaps in the wrong place big whoop, Spud. Since the only comment made was a smiley and a link to a very slick F-16 acrobatics flight demo, the intent was to imply not so much actual combat comparisons between the two aircraft, but merely to poke a little fun at the F-35 while demonstrating some truly agile and slippery ACM capabilities displayed in vid.

Personally, I'd love to see just one vid of a the bulky F-35 airframe doing anything impressive agility wise, corner speed wise, sustained roll rate wise, or effective high alpha wise, just like the rest of us. But if one can't appreciate the flight envelope characteristics shown in the excellently produced vid as linked above and flown by an obviously very skilled F-16 driver, then to each his own.. no hard feelings :thumb:

So geogen said: "Personally, I'd love to see just one vid of a the bulky F-35 airframe doing anything impressive agility wise," as your soleMate (yep deliberate spelling said re the First VL onboard USS Wasp) commented 'only a publicity stunt'. Waspish huh. WASPs being Waspish - only in Amerika! :D

Why don't we load up both airplanes with two 2000 lb bombs and 18,000 lb of fuel, then compare agility? Or speed? Or max g? Or max roll rate? Or range?

Let's see:
29.3k OEW
4.5k Airshow Fuel (25% internal)
43k max thrust F135
---------------------------------
1.27 T/W ratio... sounds good to me.
